Ah makes sense haha. No, sorry, should have been clearer, I started from the beginning again but it was still better then staying and waiting for a course to be available.
One person I know did the full street to seat course elsewhere and another who went to freight was put on a shunt to main. C2C shunters do mainline rules and traction and get an EU license. Are you really able to go mainline elsewhere as a Shunter for c2c? I'm only in for Mainline with them so wouldn't be of thought for me but that's interesting to know as SWR depot drivers can't due to only getting Driver Id's and not licenses.
Oh I see. That's interestingOne person I know did the full street to seat course elsewhere and another who went to freight was put on a shunt to main. C2C shunters do mainline rules and traction and get an EU license.
8th April for me.Oh I see. That's interesting
Whilst we are waiting, has anyone received rough dates for courses?
8th April for me.
Cheers mate. I’ve got my medical booked in for Monday and then they said it’ll take 3/4 days for the results to come back. That's not far away at all! Congratulations. Out of interest, have they given a date for the medical yet?
I don't suppose anybody else has heard anything, either positive or negative? Still radio silence here.
Nope, I assume Mainline is in the process of candidate picking. To be fair the campaign spans 2024-2025 so I believe we could be waiting a tad for News. That's not far away at all! Congratulations. Out of interest, have they given a date for the medical yet?

If you was offered the driver role, definitely wait for it. C2C are a small toc, you won’t be waiting long for a trainee driver place.Hi, I've passed all the assessments and interviews for the role of a train driver. However due to limited places have been offered to take the role of a train shunt driver or wait in a talent pool. Not one route is guaranteed to be any quicker than the other. Does anyone have any advice or input?
Sound advice here, however if you like the idea of starting off In the depot and then feeling your way up to an eventual mainline position(No specified time as it varies) then Depot Driver is a sound way.If you was offered the driver role, definitely wait for it. I think someone mentioned on here that they will recruit again later in the year, so they need more drivers, you won’t be waiting long for a trainee driver course.
If I was in your shoes, I’d ask for the talent pool.
I was thinking the same thing Sam.Sound advice here, however if you like the idea of starting off In the depot and then feeling your way up to an eventual mainline position(No specified time as it varies) then Depot Driver is a sound way.
Depends on the person at the end of the day. Both options have their pros and cons.
Those who heard back, was it via call or email and approximately what time? Thanks
Yeah, tbh both are very good opportunities. Just depends on factors.I was thinking the same thing Sam.
Take the shunter position and then if a driver course becomes available, ask to be immediately placed on it. But I’m not sure how contracts works on the railway. I would only take it if it said in writing “placed immediately on a trainee driver course once available”
Anyway for me I’m sticking to my guns and would wait it out in the trainee driver talent pool.
You can't be placed immediately, you have to join the waiting list of shunt driversI was thinking the same thing Sam.

Doesn't work like that. There is equal treatment for everyone on the railway, the same way you can't ask for a higher salary than your colleagues.I was thinking the same thing Sam.

An extra Exam makes this an interesting decision and raises for some the Talent pool option now.Doesn't work like that. There is equal treatment for everyone on the railway, the same way you can't ask for a higher salary than your colleagues.
You start as a shunter and if they decide to do a shunt to main course there is a waiting list and an additional exam that street to seat drivers don't have to pass.
Yeah, it's not easy and not everyone passes. An extra Exam makes this an interesting decision and raises for some the Talent pool option now.
Either way I think one will be chuffed just to get the options to decide.
Indeed. For anyone wondering the part time mainline job was about £65 a week more than full time shunting a couple of years ago.Plus of you do go down the shunt to mainline course, you have to do your time on a part time roster for at least 2 years.

Thank you both for a wealth of information. Really helpful for Decision-Making.Plus of you do go down the shunt to mainline course, you have to do your time on a part time roster for at least 2 years.
Would have been nice to know from them how many positions were actually available from the onset.I was initially told there were no mainline full time positions available however that may have changed now.
Normally there are a bunch of parts timers who are already at two years or will reach their two years while you'd be on the course, so generally new street to seat go part time.I was initially told there were no mainline full time positions available however that may have changed now.

what about if you go direct onto mainline driving via a street to seat course would you still have to go part time first before becoming full time?? or can you finish the street to seat course and be full time ??Plus of you do go down the shunt to mainline course, you have to do your time on a part time roster for at least 2 years.
This street to seat campaign was for a full time role. It quoted the salary too on the original Job description, unless I'm remembering wrong.what about if you go direct onto mainline driving via a street to seat course would you still have to go part time first before becoming full time?? or can you finish the street to seat course and be full time ??
yeah i was under the same impression was just trying to clarify. This street to seat campaign was for a full time role. It quoted the salary too on the original Job description, unless I'm remembering wrong.
It depends what they employ you for.what about if you go direct onto mainline driving via a street to seat course would you still have to go part time first before becoming full time?? or can you finish the street to seat course and be full time ??
