Trivia: Rare or unique Gadgetbahn systems from around the world

Presumably Upper Douglas Cable Tramway. Edinburgh had cable trams as well. Moving abroad, Melbourne and Sydney in Australia both had cable trams.

Two Swiss trains derail during storm

As well as RhB, MGB and ZB all run on AC. Rhätische Bahn and Matterhorn Gotthard Bahn are 11kV 16.67Hz (apart from the RhB Bernina Line - 1000V DC) and the Zentralbahn is 15kV 16.67Hz.

'Scenic trains' proposed by Scotrail for Highlands

MGB (Matterhorn Gotthard Bahn) also have some EMUs with panoramic sections. These are: BDSeh 4/8 ABDeh 4/8 ABDeh 4/10 All are, unsurprisingly, Stadler products.

Can folding cycles ever be restricted?

I seem to remember that the ability to pre-book bikes on the Anglia service from Ipswich was dropped on the introduction of the Class 745 units and the withdrawal of the Class 90 + Mk3 + DVT sets. With the Mk3 DVT, it was possible to get at least 50 bikes on each train. Anglia also helped in...

    Latour de Carol

That's correct, the layout has changed somewhat since I was last there (roughly 1996ish!) The overnight service will presumably stop immediately in front of the station building (where the run-round loop is) and the Spanish trains now stop at what was a blank platform face back then, just a...

    Latour de Carol

Part of the reason for the lines crossing over was to get the Spanish train to stop on a segregated part of the platform outside the station building, which contained the passport and immigration facilities.

First West Yorkshire & York discussion

According to Bustimes.org, 69379 was last seen in York on the 10 at 19:00 on 4th November. 69279, on the other hand, was recorded as being used on the 4 yesterday (and is on the 12A today)

P&O Ferries to permanently stop accepting foot passengers on their Dover to Calais route.

The Coquelles drop off point is about 20-30 minutes ride from Calais Fréthun station, where you can get TGVs to Lille and Paris, or the Intercité (or is this a TER now?) to Paris via Amiens, as well as TER services around the local area, including Calais and Boulogne among others. Alternatively...

P&O Ferries to permanently stop accepting foot passengers on their Dover to Calais route.

That's because before covid there were two crossings in each direction every day (From memory, roughly 08:30 and around 14:30? from Folkestone & 12:30 and 18:30? from Coquelles). During covid the service was removed, but has now been re-introduced with an initial one crossing each way per day...

P&O Ferries to permanently stop accepting foot passengers on their Dover to Calais route.

On the Shuttle, bikes are carried in Eurotunnel transit-sized vans, large enough to take 4 cyclists and their bikes, plus the Eurotunnel driver. See the Eurotunnel bike carriage page for details.

    Barcelona - Portbou/Cerbere [R11 Rodalies]

Sadly that's not a possibility with a bike. There is no cycle carriage on the Latour-De-Carol portion of the overnight train. The coach with the cycle compartment is part of the Cerbère portion.

First West Yorkshire & York discussion

They certainly are on the Uni services, I saw several this morning whilst I was at work. Two of them appear to be numbered 35930 & 35931, I'm not close enough to the Sport Village bus stop to see the numbers on the others, sadly. First photo is of the rear of 35931 at the York Sport Village Bus...

    Can anyone identify this train?

They definitely went up the Bernina Pass from the south. I was on a train from Tirano to St Moritz in 1993 which stopped just after Campocologno (where there is a loading point) for the addition of 3 or 4 wagon-loads of tree trunks. The log wagons were taken off again at Pontresina for tripping...

Bordrestaurant on EC 9 between Cologne and Zurich

According to the relevant page on the excellent resource that is Vagonweb, the train in question is formed of Swiss stock with a dining car at the rear of second class/in front of first class. That page also gives a link to the SBB-CFF-FFS web page containing menus, etc.

    Loco Hauled Trains in France

Many thanks for the update @CC 72100! Nice to know there's still the occasional run out for some of the older locos.

    Loco Hauled Trains in France

The Paris Austerlitz - Briançon overnight service has been hauled by pairs of BB75000 diesels south of Valence for quite some time now. It was certainly BB75000s in 2017, when I last used it (And CC72000 hauled before that.) French Wikipedia has a nice photo of a pair of BB75000 arriving at...
