East-West Rail (EWR): Consultation updates [not speculation]

Those two retail units are due to be combined and turned into a Greggs. Work should have already started but is obviously delayed for some reason. The station itself was designed and built at a time when passenger numbers and forecasts were a fraction of what they are now, and it was huge...

Is this a record Liverpool to Euston time?

Agreed, though I think you mean where the 50mph limit through Platform 11 becomes 80/95mph for the small section before the 125mph limit kicks back in?

    IET running on diesel

To lose that much time it's very probable there was an engine out. Quite possible a second one wasn't 'giving its all' or indeed out as well. When all engines are working they keep to time without much trouble.

Potential weather disruption Tuesday 7th onwards - Storm Barra

Drivers engage it when instructed to in their notices when they book on - that decision is made by Control and based on how bad the wave breaches are expected to be. Today I think it was from (I think) 06:30-11:30. Little chance of it making a difference under conditions that were seen at...

East-West Rail (EWR): Oxford-Bletchley construction progress

Refreshing to see. You might have expected to see three or four identical expensive massive green bridges lined up a few yards apart!

    Cotswold line speed restrictions

IEP or IET’s whichever you want to call them have good performance on diesel up the incline. By comparison, a turbo only reaches 55-60mph and whilst a HST gets to 75 a little quicker, the initial poor acceleration means total time to climb the bank is very similar. Class 180s we’re the best...

    Cotswold line speed restrictions

If we ever reach the 2tph service, and half the train omit a call at Honeybourne, then a raise in the linespeed to 90/100mph would provide a decent enough saving between Aston Magna to Evesham that would at least be worth looking at in detail IMHO. As jimm says, coming the other way provides...

Delays on Oxford to Banbury route this morning

It would have come in very useful in the case of the last two Sunday's...but not used very often otherwise. Certainly a 'nice to have' when something fails, as Didcot to Kennington/Oxford has proven on a few occasions.

Delays on Oxford to Banbury route this morning

Still part of the phase 2 works I believe. Tackley crossover has been installed and some of the signalling in readiness. The main stumbling block is the two AHB crossings between Tackley and Wolvercote, the closure of which also form part of the phase 2 works.

    GWR Pullman dining reinstated

Should be six daily services from 12th July, with these two from South Wales joining the two existing ones, and two more on the WoE route. 13.22 – Swansea to Paddington 18.48 – London to Swansea

Kings Cross ‘uncrossed’ Layout/Remodelling - Information and Updates

Apologies if I’ve missed it up thread, but when do the remainder of the platforms and signalling come on stream?

    Live signalling diagrams

OTT remains my personal favourite (respecting that it's personal preference), though others are extremely useful as well. It covers a pretty wide area, has a clear layout with very easy to interpret route settings on most maps. The obvious weak point is the link to schedules, which is very...

GWR Class 769 information. (Units no longer with GWR - Off Lease March 23)

Do we have any updates on Class 769s being able to use the 3rd rail on any of the three short(ish) sections between Reading and Gatwick? The middle one (Guildford to Ash) would be little use anyway, but it would be a positive to be able to use the juice between Reading<>Wokingham and...

    Youtube links and Video sites

Here's a couple from my channel that might interest cab ride fans. Firstly, a trip from Wolvercote Junction (Oxford) to Kingham recorded in the heavy snowfall back in January 2010. And, a before and after comparison of the Great Western Main Line electrification between Reading and Didcot...

    Twywell station

I've got three taken in June 1972 from my father's collection. Two at Twywell, and one at Cranford. His notes say that there were 11 return working per week at that point.

    Kenilworth Station Closure

Ah, I see. I assumed from the thread headline and first post it had already been 'closed', but upon reading the link see that it is from next week.

    Kenilworth Station Closure

Meanwhile, Kenilworth appears to have 'reopened' with the one unit working a service every two hours.

The future of Heathrow Express Post Crossrail

Agreed, and so with the better acceleration as well it'll probably be around the 30 seconds mark in total. Slightly more in the down direction if the 60mph section at Kensal Green ever gets applied from 50mph (boards have been installed but covered for over a year - sometimes not covered when...

Great Western Railway Heathrow Express Class 387 Refittment and Service Updates

Better acceleration and the opportunity to be at 110mph, rather than 100mph, from Acton to Heathrow Airport Junction (not allowing for acceleration/braking) will shave a little time of what the Class 332s could achieve. I would estimate that to be seconds rather than minutes though. At a...
