    Great Western Electrification Progress

Worries about the suspension bottoming out I believe. There are a few worries over Turbos using it at full speed. Hopefully both fears won't be realised and any bars are only temporary.

    Great Western Electrification Progress

I guess it was a case of the track and signals already being there and a fair bit of the track still being needed to access Acton Yard and the Goods Loops. Also it gives a chance to regulate trains, so one up train could in theory be held in the diveunder whilst another overtakes it...

    Great Western Electrification Progress

There's a 50mph Temporary Speed Restriction through the diveunder which will probably last a week or two, after which it will take the same time via either route. The 5mph speed reduction to 75mph at the end of it won't have any impact on the vast majority of trains that have called at Ealing...

The annual "Boxing Day Trains" row.

That is my way of thinking, too.

Creation of class 230 DEMUs from ex-LU D78s by Vivarail

A very unfortunate setback, but as others have said hopefully not something that will kill the project off, though it will probably delay its entry into service by a few months at least. With other projects in the pipeline like the 319 Flex, losing time and momentum certainly won't be good news...

The annual "Boxing Day Trains" row.

Fair comment, Bellbell. I guess we could describe that as opinion 3b  Of course, for it to become compulsory, there would have to be complex agreements negotiated with the unions. Currently, speaking as a driver, my opinion is that it should and would remain voluntary for the time...

The annual "Boxing Day Trains" row.

So, to sum it up, it seems there are three different opinions: 1) There are those that think Boxing Day should have no trains, whether there's a demand or not, as railway staff are entitled to a Christmas break. 2) There are those that think it's too difficult to implement because if...

The annual "Boxing Day Trains" row.

As with Chiltern I'd be asking for volunteers initially - they don't seem to have had any problems. Some of the staff don't like it (having spoken to them), but that's fine as they don't have to volunteer. Some of the other staff who work as much as they can, and every depot has a few of those...

The annual "Boxing Day Trains" row.

I guess time will tell on that front. Pressure from the press and public might not meant they have much of a choice soon. AIUI the new drivers contracts for Crossrail include Boxing Day working (at an enhanced rate). I appreciate that is more TfL than DfT but the more operators that run...

The annual "Boxing Day Trains" row.

Bicester Vilage do indeed contribute towards the Chiltern service. I should make it clear that in no way do I think this would be a profitable service for any TOC, it's merely part of providing a service to its customers - that's why I specifically mentioned that the DfT should write it into...

The annual "Boxing Day Trains" row.

Not if you stuck to core routes. As Chiltern have found out with being able to run an hourly service between Oxford Parkway and Marylebone for the majority of the day using, I believe, just eight drivers. To give you an example, the LTV drivers at GWR based at Oxford, Reading and Paddington...

    Chiltern Oxford Link completed

It was originally May 2015, then 2016, then 2017 and now 2018 AIUI. So who knows for sure!

    Chiltern Oxford Link completed

From the plans I've seen (dated late March this year), yes the vast majority of changes are incorporated into Phase 1 and are certainly reflected in what work has been completed so far on the ground. The Bi-di element at Tackley surprised me slightly as well. Though the ground frame at...

    Chiltern Oxford Link completed

It's certainly far more comprehensive than Phase 0, which was basically specified to just do enough to get Chiltern into Oxford. There's also a Phase 2 which includes an additional crossover, some additional signalling moves and the additional bi-di Platform 5 at Oxford. It looks increasingly...

The annual "Boxing Day Trains" row.

I'd certainly consider working on Boxing Day for a decent financial incentive. You'd only need 10-20% of the total establishment at many depots to volunteer to to run a service on key routes of most franchises between say 7am-10pm. I don't think there is any call for a Christmas Day service...

    Chiltern Oxford Link completed

The Phase 1 layout (Phase 0 is the current layout) will have the Rewley Road sidings slewed over to the east which will make room for a 40mph line branching off shortly after OX135 (which will become OD2380) on the Up Oxford Relief. This will lead directly to Platforms 1 and 2 and will remove...
