Mystery of new poles in West Wales

The sign by the track tells the driver where to stop, the one on the platform tells passengers where the front of the train will be.

If they do get refurbished, I would assume it would be to both ends.

It's possible, but this morning the West Midlands Railway website was was warning of major problems on the line before any trains had been cancelled.

WMR Class 196 Build and Implementation

Since the introduction of the 196's on the Nuckle line the performance has fallen off a cliff. This Monday to Friday only Wednesday had a full service, today is particularly bad with 22 out of 36 departures from Kenilworth being cancelled. Most cancellations have cited train crew issues as the...

Gate lines at Marylebone and Moor Street

An operational oddity is that on WMR trains arriving at Snow Hill the onboard announcement includes a reminder to have tickets ready to exit through the barriers. This isn’t said as the train arrives at Moor Street. From experience, the gates at Snow Hill are open more often than those at Moor...

Snow Hill Lines Likely To Stay at 4tph Long Term

There is one 2 car (half) diagram according to the PDF timetable published on the WMR website. The diagram starts the day as 4 cars but reduces to 2 with the 10:47 departure from Shrub Hill to Stratford. It then becomes 4 cars again from the 15:16 from Shrub Hill to Dorridge, before ending the...

Chiltern May 2023 timetable change - for the worse or better?

I think it will struggle to earn its keep, any revenue gained will likely not cover the additional operational costs. RTT has it departing from platform 4 at Leamington at 0555. Platform 4 has an 0540 to Nuneaton, so the unit will need to be positioned from the sidings into Platform 4 after the...

Stations which have given their name to a settlement they serve

Middleton Junction on the line between Manchester Victoria and Rochdale. Have any Parkway stations had their name used by the area surrounding the station?

West Midlands Trains Birmingham New Street to Crewe via Tame Bridge Parkway?

Using the journey planner for 'departing now', from Tame Bridge Parkway to New Street via Wolverhampton would take 45 minutes, whilst the alternative doubling back at Walsall would take 43 minutes. This is probably quite close to what could be achieved from Willenhall or Darlaston.

West Midlands Trains Birmingham New Street to Crewe via Tame Bridge Parkway?

Why isn’t the service to Birmingham useful? As best as I can figure out from the tfwm site, neither Willenhall nor Darlaston currently have a direct bus service to Birmingham, being able to get to Birmingham in under 30 minutes would, in my opinion, be quite useful.

    May 2023 changes

I’m not sure of the dates, but at some point (which must have been before 2013), Chiltern became responsible for providing the service for the stations after Dorridge, so Lapworth to Leamington Spa, with all 3 local services terminating at Dorridge. In order not to slow down London services too...

    May 2023 changes

When the Nottingham to Birmingham journeys disappear, Wilnecote gains a stop in the Nottingham to Cardiff journeys. So it doesn't seem to be an error.

    May 2023 changes

A niche observation, which be just a data entry error, but the four request stops between Stratford-upon-Avon and Birmingham Moor Street (Wootton Wawen, Danzey, Wood End and The Lakes) are not indicated as request stops from May. (Last Tuesday I travelled mid afternoon from Birmingham and we...

    May 2023 changes

Lapworth had over 84 thousand passengers in 2019-20 and 51 thousand last year, so probably the additional calls are merited. Tyseley and Small Heath gain the extra call per hour due to the recasting of service from 6 trains an hour (pre-Covid) to 4 trains an hour now. The extra call is needed...

    May 2023 changes

No - that was almost my fourth bullet, it's almost reduced to a 2 hourly Stratford to Leamington shuttle, apart from one train at 2133 that extends to Marylebone (and is incidentally the last service from Leamington to Marylebone) and the final train at 2314 that runs to Banbury
