    EMR refusing Scottish money

Part of me at that point would have been inclined to respond with similar awkwardness if the drink had been made. They have the choice of either a) accept your Sterling bank note, b) give you the drink for free or c) waste it.

    Cancellation: Lineside Vegetation

It was at Tile Hill. Got caught up in this myself.

    EMR refusing Scottish money

I tried, and failed, to pay with a Scottish banknote at a SouthEastern TVM at London Bridge a couple of years back. Put a tenner in to buy a Travelcard (the railcard discounted Travelcards were exactly a tenner) and it wasn't having any of it. I had a Scottish note refused in an Aldi in West...

Clearing the Air - RDG Report

Fair. That's true on all counts. Vaping on a train is at worst likely to be met with a telling off by the traincrew, but far more likely to be accepted as common practice. Whereas vaping on an aircraft is highly likely to see Police attention on arrival.

Clearing the Air - RDG Report

In fairness, neither do the Anglo-Scottish TOCs, with the exception of TPE. And as for the comment below yours about misbehaving, people clearly do get arrested on the railway for misbehaving or else the British Transport Police wouldn't have cause to exist.

[Trivia] Passenger Trains That Often Carry No Passengers For Entire Route

I've boarded at Newton le Willows a few times, never been alone in doing so. Pretty much all railway staff or airline staff though!

    Class 710 LO

Can definitely make that work, cheers.

Any idea which service? I'm heading that way shortly and will be hoping to get it

Class 701 'Aventra' trains for South Western Railway

Much appreciated. That's the only 701 I've had, so I'll give it a miss.

    Any passenger 701s running today?

    Sheffield - Meadowhall Fares

Therein lies your answer. The First Bus app just displayed a regular QR code compatible with bus driver's ticket machines.

    Sheffield - Meadowhall Fares

Oh for f... I used one bought from the FirstBus app once. A Northern guard tried to scan it, which obviously didn't work. Had no issues accepting it once he'd seen what it actually was. Everyone else just looked at it and moved on without batting an eyelid.

    Weird train-related dreams

Had a wierd one today. I'm on nights, hence "today". I was on a steam charter on the Chat Moss line heading out of Liverpool, casually sat in a Mk1 enjoying a few beers I'd brought on with me. I was hoping to use my Saveaway to Huyton on the charter, presumably for the novelty factor as I'm not...

    Caledonian Sleeper

Possibly, as I did arrive late at night.

    Caledonian Sleeper

I've kind of had that happen. Booked a single room with shared facilities, was upgraded to a double en suite. The bog door jammed shut after I'd used it (thankfully!) And neither me nor a maintenance guy who reception sent up could open it again. I was told the facilities were on the floor...

    Special Offers Discussion

Not a rail offer admittedly, so I hope this is allowed. Stena Line are doing foot passenger singles for £10 on the Irish Sea routes until the end of the year if you book by the 19th March. Only exclusions I could see are the night Liverpool-Belfast crossings.

Is the Heathrow Express a viable, worthwhile service?

I used HEX the only time I've flown out of Heathrow. I'd just missed a CrossRail train, the next one wasn't for 25 minutes so I got the Heathrow Express. Expensive, especially given I had a Travelcard, but I was in the airside 'Spoons with a beer in my hand 40 minutes later. It's definitely a...

CAF Civity for TfW: News and updates on introduction.

I think it does now, but almost certain it didn't at the time. It definitely departed Manchester as a single 153(303). That I can 100% confirm. The bit I don't know is wether it worked all the way from Cardiff or wether it took over from Shrewsbury or something. Unfortunately there is a 319...
