Fire on a train in Wolverhampton?

The Express & Star reports it was on Platform 3, which appears to be an XC Voyager on 1O18 Manchester Piccadilly to Oxford.

Midland Metro - full closure from Saturday 13 November 2021 (also Sydney)

There are shuttle buses running from The Hawthorns to the Aquatics Centre, giving both tram and rail connections. It makes sense to me, since The Hawthorns station is already used to handling large crowds for football matches.

Rail replacement bus running, but so is the train it's supposed to be replacing!

It looks like that replacement bus starts at Stockport, whereas the train starts at Sheffield. Any passengers from Sheffield to Nottingham would just get the train, but passengers from Stockport will be on that bus, and some will want Sheffield and some will want Nottingham.

TRIVIA: Direct Buses Faster Than Direct Trains

If you can class it as a bus, the Megabus from Birmingham to Cambridge takes 2h 20min, whereas the direct train takes around 2h 45min. The coach would be a bit quicker too, if it didn't have to call at Coventry on the way.

Trivia : "Endangered Species" of buses

Travel Express/Let's Go in Wolverhampton operated some until very recently, before they were replaced by newer Enviro200s. Red Rose also had one in use until last year. I'm not sure if there's any others left in service, but there are at least a decent amount of ALX300s around, at least in the...

Leyland National Bus (London two door version) Passenger Safety

Similar designs are still used today, there's a seat at the front of later Volvo B7RLEs right behind the door, with a glass panel in front of you. Similarly, Scania OmniLinks have seats behind the driver's cab, with a tinted window in front of you.

Collision and derailment near Salisbury (Fisherton Tunnel) 31/10/21

It appears so, I've seen an image that appears to be from a video of the inside of one of the units, which has a Tik Tok watermark. I won't be sharing it for obvious reasons.

Trivia - abandoned railways with intact track

The line from Wednesbury to Brierley Hill in the West Midlands was abandoned, but still had tracks in situ, until very recently. It's now being converted into a Midland Metro line, and I'm pretty certain they've removed the old tracks already. I've got a feeling that the section from Wednesbury...

    Midland Metro

The Express & Star reports that it's due to cracks in the underframe structure at either end of the trams. https://www.expressandstar.com/news/transport/2021/06/11/all-metro-trams-removed-from-service-for-inspection-after-fault-identified/

    Peak Bus Fares

There are still peak fares in the West Midlands on National Express to an extent, a Daysaver is £4.60, but after the Morning peak at 0930, it becomes £4.00.

HS2 viaduct - will we hear it?

The surrounding area will affect it, but you shouldn't have too much of an issue. I live less than 500m away from the WCML Stour Valley line, and I can barely hear it from here, even with my windows open or standing outside. It's only on the odd day when it's quiet on my estate, or if the wind's...

    Bus Manufacturer News & Discussion

The newer Streetlites are the same at Diamond, mainly the 68 plates onwards. I went down to Showbus 2019 on 20167 (SK19 FCG), which barely had any rattles, and sat at motorway speeds with no issue.

    Bus Manufacturer News & Discussion

The 20 reg Streetlites are performing well, the only one that's been off the road had a stolen car crash into it. The 70 plates are great too, although they're headed down south soon. They know how to maintain them properly if you ask me, the 62 reg ones they transferred in for the 31/32 had...

Private plates on buses and coaches

Ah, I forgot about that, cheers. Another one I've remembered, Preston Bus have T3 WSX, adorning ex-London LG02 FDV, as it was a Wessex vehicle before that operation closed.

Private plates on buses and coaches

NX West Midlands have S1 TWM, which was originally on an O405GN: https://www.flickr.com/photos/royalmailman/14985152634/ It then got put onto a Scania bendy: https://www.flickr.com/photos/je1791/5641022057/ And, after those got withdrawn, it got transferred again to a B7RLE...

    Arriva exiting Cannock

Regarding the brand, I'm told they will be bringing back the old 'Chaserider' name. The Stafford routes are meant to be going to Select, but no official word on that as of yet.

    Centrebus group

There's a mention on the wmbusphotos forum, that Arriva's Cannock depot has now been sold to Centrebus. It was rumoured for a while, and there's no actual announcement yet, but it's interesting if true. Apparently NX will take over the Walsall - Cannock services from Arriva.
