PF/UKRT Western Champion 'One Way Wizzo' Railtour 14/4/24

There were around 20-30 enthusiasts at Twyford this afternoon to watch the Western go by. It’s a bigger turn out than you get for many steam rail tours. I’m glad the tour was a great success.

    Didcot Steam Movement 22/2/24

Yes it's loco 5199 returning home after its recent appearance on half-term trains with its sister engine 4144 that is based at Didcot. To get all steam locos on/off site at DRC it's standard practice to have 2 X Class 66's top 'n tail

Class 701 'Aventra' trains for South Western Railway

I wonder if the 701's will have that new train smell

Could the green Staycation HST be used for more railtours?

Yes indeed - if you look at the Midland Pullman website most upcoming trips are fully booked or have limited places.

GWR Class 769 information. (Units no longer with GWR - Off Lease March 23)

A case of what might have been but do any photos exist of a Class 769 next to a Class 701 - ie: what could've been a common scene at Reading platforms 4/5

Sad state of 18000 "KEROSENE CASTLE" at Didcot

I've taken a copy from the Echo magazine I had delivered. Hopefully you can magnify to read it. If not at least I tried

NRM collection out on loan during York redevelopment

Seen on another site it's been unloaded in Didcot West Yard.

NRM collection out on loan during York redevelopment

With the closure of the NRM's Station Hall for refurbishment do we know how many of the collection are going out on loan? I've seen that Western Fusilier D1023 is on its way to Didcot Railway Centre. It will remain a static exhibit.

Parts of 7027 Thornbury Castle to be used for new build 47XX.

A deal requires another interested party to come forward with funding. The six month window runs until April. The 4709 group is based at Tyseley so in the absence of any deal it's logical that 7027 could be back at Tyseley later this year.

    Why Class 37s?

Most Class 37s are RA5 so I assume they can go anywhere on the network. I assume supply of parts is good. Perhaps drivers at the TOCs enjoy them in same way as driving an old classic car. Its a purer driving experience and you have that sound. PS: I’m writing purely as an enthusiast!

Parts of 7027 Thornbury Castle to be used for new build 47XX.

Interesting to see the GCR have secured the purchase of 9F 92214. Both this engine and 7027 had the same owner. Were both offered for sale to GCR?

Parts of 7027 Thornbury Castle to be used for new build 47XX.

Rocket is the most famous steam loco in the world with Flying Scotsman a close 2nd. The reality with Thornbury Castle is unless a group/individual have a significant six figure sum ready by Easter the current sale will continue. As to what happens next is anyone's guess.

Are we going to see more railway anniversaries celebrated apart from Scotsman Centenary in 2023?

4 Castles will be at Didcot on 4 March. 3 will be in steam. The 2 Tyseley Castles are visiting on a railtour, Didcot's own Pendennis Castle will be operational and their other castle 5051 will be on static display.

Parts of 7027 Thornbury Castle to be used for new build 47XX.

Pendennis Castle (the Didcot engine in ticket) will be out and about at a number of galas in 2023. If you want to see 4 Castles come to Didcot on 4 March. The 2 Tyseley based Castles are visiting on a railtour, Pendennis will be in steam and 5051 Drysllwyn Castle will be on static display. As...

SWR Class 458 to be retained

Does anyone know what will happen to the 2 completed 458 refurbished units at Widnes? I assume these are off lease and will just end up being stored rather than being put back into service. More money poured down the drain!

GwR HSTs to be stood down

Now the Class 769 program on GWR is being binned will this lead to a stay of execution for some Castle HSTs as the 165/6 cascade west can’t now happen.

Does everyone working on the project believe they will enter service in 2023?
