    If you do Pompeii then also consider Herculaneum. On the Amalfi coast it used to be Coach Tours were only allowed One Way travel North to South Whereas local buses could do Two way. From Sorrento the Coastal views are on the right.

    In my copy of the PWI Handbook there is a table. New track 200 - 100m radius = 6mm wide + 1435 = 1441mm 99 - 70m radius = 19mm wide + 1435 = 1454mm Wide gauge max 1481 stop traffic immediately. 1465 mm report in writing with detail of remedial action minimum gauge 1429mm

    What will be the water depth covering the tube? There was a "Mighty Ships " Documentary on the other day, featuring a cruise liner, that sailed in this area, that needed a 9.5m depth.

    I get the impression that rather than an actual crane on track we may have a Road Rail Excavator and Trailer or more likely just the Trailer. This may be what has been mentioned upthread as having slid down onto the track.

    How many miles of Pandrol clips are there in the ground now? All you need is a hammer. They might not be on the HS routes but ECML etc has a goodly amount.

    I believe 1481mm is the absolute Network Rail limit before an immediate closure of the line. With normal gauge of 1432 - 1435mm

    Do you mean Swing Nose crossings ? These give a continuous rail rather than having a gap.
