Yep, it's the same in Leicester. All very well wishing people the compliments of the season but when customers are waiting at a stop and a bus approaches and all they see is that how the hell are they supposed to know whether it is the service they are waiting for or not. Ridiculous!
I think the display alternates between the route information and the Merry Christmas message.

Bah humbug

From what I've seen, it doesn't change quickly enough.

I don't want to see an empty, corporate christmas greeting, I want to see if the bus is in service and where it's going.

Absolutely and of course it's purely coincidental that most of the time the ridiculous message is showing just when people are at a stop. Hopefully this will be the last year of this nonsense.

Volvo 4202 was involved in a collision with an Audi on Leicester Road in Loughborough this morning while running a service 127 to Leicester.
A bus and car were involved in a collision on a major Leicestershire road this morning (December 30). The incident led to Leicester Road, in Loughborough, being closed by police.

Officers were called to the scene shortly before 9.45am. Images of the scene showed a damaged red Audi A3 and a number 127 Arriva bus, with the driver and passengers of the car seen standing at the roadside, an onlooker told the news agency SWNS.

A spokesperson for Leicestershire Police said no life-threatening nor life-changing injuries were reported as a result of the incident.

The onlooker told SWNS: "It was dealt with relatively quickly. The main thing was clearing up the oil spill. After that was cleared up, the road was reopened."

No arrests have been made, according to police. An emergency recovery truck attended to remove the damaged vehicles.
As an aside, a commenter on the article may have seen a Pulsar Gemini being removed from Thurmaston depot.

For residents of Derby, who live within the Inner Ring Road such as Osmaston Park Road, their bus fares have risen from the £2 fare cap to £2.10 !!!! I wonder how many people will expect it to be £3?

I can see fares rising soon enough, before the cap it was £2.60 from Oakwood into Derby.

Atleast the 2 (to Swadlincote) & X38 will be £3, that to me is still major value for money.

Pulsar CX58 EUO has entered service in Leicestershire for the first time today on the 127, renumbered 3767.

I feel sure Arriva usually increase their fares at the end of March, but now, for the first time in 2 years, there will be differences in fare between bus companies. As for the X38, maybe the relevant Arriva day ticket is cheaper than £3 fares.

Having seen a freshly painted Wright bodies VDL Pulsar in Derby earlier, I give you a picture of recent repaint 3726 which looks ready for a repaint.

That Pulsar still looks in better condition than some of the Pulsars Tamworth have in the new livery!

Thanks to Arriva's atrociously incoherent fleet numbering system!

With how fluid Arrivas fleet movements are, I think it's about time Arriva copied First and Stagecoach and had a national numbering scheme.

the latest number at Derby is 3727, on MX10 DCU.

If anyone knows of any that are in service with new numbers I haven’t listed, let me know

*below is a photo of old fleet nos, registrations & the new numbers of Derbys recent pulsars additions*

3147 is tracking on the 16 on Bustimes tonight. I wonder what's different today, since 72-plates and newer are virtually never used on the Coalville or Hinckley networks, which I think I heard was because Arriva didn't want to bother to train drivers on these networks to drive buses with camera mirrors.

Arriva have committed to purchasing only new electric buses from 2024
Can you point to a published source for this please? As far as I am aware, only National Express has said it won't be buying any more new diesel buses, while First, Go-Ahead and Stagecoach have suggested dates in the future when this will be the case.

Sure!
Look at "Full accounts made up to 31 December 2023" for ARRIVA MIDLANDS LIMITED:

Under Page 11 (printed on bottom right corner), we see:
"Fleet > From 2024, no new fossil fuelled buses will be purchased in the UK."

That's quite the commitment, given the additional cost of electric buses and the vast amount of buses needed to update Arrivas fleet, I assume they are relying on ZEBRA funding...

Only seems to have done 1 round trip on the 16, so could've been a short notice cover from Thurmaston with one of their drivers running it.

IIRC when the 16 plate E400MMCs departed for Merseyside a few were kept to avoid sending the newer mirror less ones to other depots to save on type training for what may be a once in a blue moon occasion.

Bit of a lie given they’ve ordered plenty of diesel buses for delivery in 2025…

As with everything, there are half a dozen loopholes that they can use.
"From 2024, no new fossil fuelled buses will be purchased in the UK."

For example,
New fossil-fuelled buses can be leased - the owner of the bus would not be Arriva, but they will be operating it. Technically, they are not purchasing a bus as they never take ownership of it. The owner would be the leasing company, such as Asset Alliance Group

If Arriva were planning on all buses joining their fleet to be non-diesel, they would write something like this:
"From 2024, no new fossil fuelled buses will be joining the fleet in the UK."

Bit of a lie given they’ve ordered plenty of diesel buses for delivery in 2025…
They need to make the government happy by writing about their emissions and their green future. :)

Cheers. Unsurprisingly, it is a standard statement repeated in all the subsidiaries' accounts, and as others have already commented, appears to be a little premature, given the age profile of their fleet across the country.
