Lots of diversions on Table 51 today. An Inverness 47 to Southampton for another one back, and a lunatic run up the WCML with 643, courtesy of a driver who clearly thought he was driving an 87 and had a freshly converted and refurbished 47/4 to prove it!

So, there's no sign of 1V01 0204 Crewe-Cardiff on the boards. Oh, hang on, it's Bank Holiday Monday ... *checks STN* ... doesn't run - well, it does, but as 3V01, vans only. However, the stock is in the bay as usual, including the usual BSK, so in for a penny ... asked the guard, he was fine with it. Excellent. Soon, a 47 appears from CD and couples up. Of course, no passengers tonight, so we don't need ETH, do we? My word, was it cold.

Certainly on passenger, especially in its Knottingley days. I had it three times, twice on summer trains and once on a relief where it replaced a failure. I knew someone for who it was his last one for haulage.

A bit unclear why I made this move (2.5 hours at Manchester, why not simply go to Liverpool?) Perhaps I fancied a pint or two, or more likely there was supposed to be something on 1E74 or 1E99 that turned out not to be what I hoped!

It was in a right state when it was briefly allocated to the Pennine fleet (at one point I was waiting for it at Newcastle and it failed whilst running light from Gateshead to the station and had to be rescued from the KE Bridge by a shunter) and was on the "hit list" of locomotives for early withdrawal.
