Yes but terminating it 9 stops early is excessive. Terminating the Pompey trains at Bristol is much more reasonable.

The trains from Plymouth to Cardiff did run to Newport. They all used platform 1 with a 73 minute turn round. So all the down trains were 15 late waiting for the platform. Rather annoying to watch a Cardiff bound train whizz past whilst standing there. Fortunately I drove to Newport. It would have been better to step up the units and send them back an hour earlier. Then they could have run the Pompeys to Newport as well.
