Its a 35 hour average over the roster, some weeks may be less , some more.
Yes the railway work at night too lol.
Some long weekends are 4 days, 5 or 6 but depends on the week thats rostered.
As i say it's an average 35 hours so some days you may only work 3 days and like 25 hours and have 6 days off in a row.
Some weeks you might do 45 hours and work 5 or 6 days.
Sundays are also not included in the working week.
Be aware just because it's based around a 5 day week doesn't mean you'll work just 5 days on then have days off.
At some depots you can be rostered to work 10 days on the bounce if you work the sunday.

Thanks all

It's Birmingham which I've applied for. I'd heard it was 35 hours. Earlies 1 week and late another.

I didn't realise they did nights aswell?

How would you get 5 or 6 day long weekends?. When it's working 5 days a week. I'd though it was maybe a 4 day weekend at most?

Thanks

Birmingham don't have any night work but you didn't specify which depot you had applied for. As for a 35-hour, 5-day week, @Class2ldn has explained how that works.

Birmingham doesn't do night, and they only work 1 in 3 Sundays.

Thanks. It was Moor street.

What's the earliest start for both moor street and snow hill to start? And what time does the last train roll in at?

With regards to working a Sunday or extra days in the week, is there an overtime rate?

I noticed someone above wrote they work 1 in 3 Sundays. I didn't realize you had to do this. I was aware of the 1 in 2 Saturdays but not Sundays?

Thanks

that is how many are rostered. there is no obligation to work them, just need to give sufficient notice

Passenger train times for Chiltern services at Moor Street and Snow Hill can be found online, I'm sure you've already done some research. All overtime worked at Chiltern is at the flat hourly rate although there is a £65 booking-on allowance for each Sunday worked. Sundays are rostered but classed as overtime and most drivers work their rostered Sundays. If you work all your booked Sundays this adds around £6,500 to the basic salary. Did you not expect to work any Sundays? If so, that's odd. Trains run on Sundays....

I'm guessing you can also do extra Sundays should they be available.

Whats the most days on the bounce they can roster you on for? Is it 10? Then you have to have a day off by law?

Well 13 is the maximum you can work including rest day working then you'd need a break. I dont know anywhere that rosters that many although people do choose to work that many with overtime.
We have guidelines called hidden so not more then 13 days on the bounce, 12 hours between shifts, max 12 hours work and max 72 hours a week.
Think I've remembered that correctly lol

Yes i know trains run on Sundays. Thanks.
I expected there were drivers out there who love money grabbing and do the Sundays all the time. Lol

I thought it was choice not a necessity.

Some companies have it within the week so it's rostered as a normal day but many places including chiltern dont.
They roster you 1 in 3 but with 2 weeks notice you can say you don't want to do it.
Any you work are paid extra on top of your base salary.
I think you really need to do a bit more research into the role as so far quite a lot seems to have surprised you.
Dont read the daily mail a lot do you lol

The working week at most (if not all) TOCs is Saturday to Saturday.

Provided your rest days for one week fall from Thurs/Fri/Sat one week, and
Sun/Mon/Tue rest days the following week, you can have 4-6 days off in a row.
And you can still work your 4 days of the working week before and after this…
Can take some time to work it out in your head, but is much easier when you have a copy of the link or write things down on a calendar.

Well you found it strange that companies work nights and you seemed to think that sundays were all voluntary.
At some companies as discussed sundays are outside the week but every company is different.
As i said above 2 weeks notice to chuck them in at chiltern

Also I see you mentioned snow hill further up, just to clarify chiltern dont have a depot at snow hill it's moor street where the depot is located but some of the services do go through to snow hill.
Not exactly sure about moor street but latest finish is probably between 12am and 130ish but someone with better knowledge of the depot may be able to advise better.

Nowhere did I say I found it strange that 'train companies work nights'.
What I actually said was...
'It's Birmingham I've applied for and I that i didn't realize 'they' did nights'... and they don't! Lol. But nowhere did I say I found it strange.

As for sundays. I've been told in the past you don't have to do them for this toc. Then a poster above mentioned that you are rostered 1 in 3. So obviously that went against what I'd been told. But as you say they can be canceled. So kind of voluntary. Lol

I'll leave the rag reading to yourself. Lol

At Chiltern you have various options for Sundays which most certainly are rostered, although this may not be the case for new starters, you'd have to ask at interview if you get that far.

Option 1 - present a signed letter to the Company informing them that you do not wish to work any rostered Sundays. (note - very few drivers actually do this and this may not be an option available to new starters).
Option 2 - work your rostered Sundays (plus any additional Sundays as you wish) which will be paid at standard hourly rate plus £65 booking-on allowance.
Option 3 - if you want any particular Sunday off, put it in writing to Rosters at least 14 days in advance to be guaranteed the day off. You can request the day off later than that cut-off point but if your turn can't be covered, you will be expected to attend for your rostered turn.

I'm assuming you don't live in Wellingborough if you've applied for Marylebone? You'd be well outside the catchment area.

Give it some time, they've only just got back into the office today it seems.

I’m currently based in south london so I’m not too far from Marylebone. I just created my account today.

I attended stage 1 & 2 OPC tests for Moor street and passed those just waiting on MMI result now, assume you obviously passed MMI? When did you do yours?
Yeah. Done mine on the 16th Dec. Had an email to say I have passed MMI stage and waiting for DMI now.

Cheers mate. I was informed on the 18th that I passed MMI stage and I was asked for DMI on 19th as they had a slot but it was too early for me. No time for prep, so they said they will conduct further interviews in Jan. so hopefully you and I will hear something back soon.
