Oh lord. How soon can we drop the stupid name?

I thought the contest was to choose a name which had something to do with the area which EMR serves?

I don't see what "Aurora" has to do with the East Midlands, but there we go.

Well you see, it was dreamt up by some head office person, who probably visited the East Midlands once. :D

Aurora was Greek for "dawn", which appears in the east, so that may be a connection. (cf "Azuma", a Japanese word with a similar meaning). Aurora has come to mean any glow in the sky, and in particular the Aurora Borealis - "boreal" means northern or arctic.

It’s too late now of course, but HST2 would’ve been a great name for these trains, since they basically are the new HSTs, what with running on most mainlines and all that. I do believe that in 40 years when these go they will be missed like the HSTs, mostly since the next ones will surely be worse.

They *were* called HST2

Those seats do look a lot like those mentioned in the New Avanti seat thread, so that probably confirms that rumour

Looking at some of the pictures on the screens in the background though, the interior does look a little bit like an explosion at the Ribena factory

Nope they are really beefy FISA LEANs, quite odd, shown here from the video:

Doesn't really seem suitable for First Class on a long-distance train, but will be interested to try out this variant anyway. Just wondering where the recline is...

Oh well, anything beats a Fainsa slab!

They're just the First Class variant as used by Abellio, but with an inset on the headrest.

Oh well, like @superalbs says Leans are considerably better than fainsas saying that, sitting on the floor is better than a fainsa!

The photo above shows 1st, will the standard class seats be the same or will they differ in some way?

Can't help but feel jealous knowing people travelling an hour or two from london to Nottingham will get a half decent seat, whilst in GWR land we are doing 3 4 5 hour journeys on fainsas

There appears to be a single seat on the other side of the luggage rack which is... bizarre. Unless it's some sort of crew seat, and there's a coffee station across the aisle.

It was dreamed up by the Head of Operational Standards who, although a Yorkshireman, has resided in the East Mids for many years, and worked his way up through the footplate grades. Respect to him.
Aurora wasn't my suggestion, but I quite like it personally. It sounds like a mythical hypersonic aircraft from Lockheeds "Skunk works". Certainly a better name than some I could mention IMHO.

It's definitely better than Arterio!

It's a pair of seats at a table...

Still bizarre then. A pair of seats, then the luggage racks, then the rest of the seating. Never seen that before (although I have seen the luggage racks half-way down the carriage in first on an HST, which were helpful).

Because the seats can go over the wheel well, but the luggage racks would be awkward like that.

For what it's worth to mention, ScotRail have floor stickers between bays of four on all 156s, 158s, and the HSTs, to advertise the space for luggage.

You have to wonder if people could have worked that out without the need for signage....
