True. My point was that trade press coverage doesn’t always equal public understanding.

(Sorry for drifting off-topic.)
The trade press is primarily there for 'The Trade' and is embroiled in the technical and commercial aspects, the public understanding of any situation being secondary.

Absolutely. Similarly, trade press coverage doesn’t always equal the actualité.
It's often said here that the mass media doesn't reflect the actual situation within the industry also so we have two information silos.

Which is quite correct for a number of the new fleet / fleet enhancement projects currently ongoing. Sometimes the press releases are intentionally misleading, other times the journalists don’t have the full information.

Why hasn’t the railway press been on the class 810 story like a rash. Are they to close to hitachi to criticise.
Presumably the Government keep a close eye on these things and are not wanting negative press aimed at sites that companies could close at the drop of a hat. It won't reflect well if Hitachi gets negative press and just decides to close the doors, leaving Brits out of work. Let's face it, their UK product has been terrible and they currently have their fleet of 800-802's visiting Eastleigh to be glued back together - this in itself should be in the media! Can you imagine the frenzy if Boeing or Airbus suddenly started to send entire fleets of aircraft for work to fix cracks?

Well no need to imagine with Boeing, hundreds of their planes have been recalled recently

And it was all over the press..........
It would have been difficult to keep it away from the mass media given two planes ploughed into the ground with total human loss, and then there were issues with emergency exit doors blowing out. Other than new train deliveries being late, issues being discussed here are pretty niche except for their being just another cause of delays and cancellations. Apart from the commuter freebies (e.g. Metro and the Evening Standard), there's little for the mainstream papers to get their teeth into.

EMR have no Rest Day Working agreement with ASLEF from Saturday 29th March. Not sure how this will affect any training.

Do you happen to have any idea what the two 810s were yesterday coupled together behind a shunter alongside the long 2 lane shed?

Based on what’s been there for the last week, 810007 nearest buffer stop, with 810005 in front of it.

A google search indicates it is owned by Network Rail, with some kind of long-term contract with GBRf

Do you have any source for Serco being involved?
Seen on Linkeldn today that Gbrf have had there contract to operate the test track extended until at least 2027.

Is it known if the overnight runs from Old Dalby last week and this are for test purposes or mileage accumulation, and are single or double sets involved?

Test purposes.
I don’t believe double sets are authorised for mainline running, even if that was for test purposes.

Tomorrows daylight runs are due to be 810003.

Could anyone confirm which set is doing 5Q41 this evening please? Passed it waiting to come on to the mainline at Melton Jn in poor light and I wasn't expecting to see it! Looked like 003 but confirmation would be appreciated. Many thanks.

810003 was parked this afternoon in the position for a unit to depart from Asfordby.

810001 and 810004 were both parked at the very rear of the facility.

I would say your sighting of 003 would be correct.
