West Indies have beaten England by 4 wickets to clinch the T20 series 3-2. England were all out for 132, but the West Indies made hard work of getting the 133 required, taking 19.2 overs.

In a new entry to what delayed a game of cricket we can now add the 3rd umpire being stuck in the lift.

No joke it happened today at the MCG. The 3rd umpire Richard Illingworth and Channel 7 commentator Mel McLaughlin were stuck in a lift prior to the start of the 2nd session, delaying the start by 7 minutes.

Read about that this morning - apparently the 4th umpire - Phil Gillespie - took on 3rd umpire duties while Illingworth and McLaughlin were rescued. 4th umpire tends to sit by the boundary so that they can run on with spare balls or anything the standing umpires need.

A spectacular collapse from India.

It was a risk for SA going for 4 fast bowlers (risky without backup) and 7 batters, but that ended up paying off, with Bavuma getting injured and Elgar, Bedingham (debut) and Jansen piling on the runs, as Rabada, Burger (debut) and Jansen all powering through the India lineup in both innings.

I assume Maharaj will come in for Bavuma in the next test, with a spinner usually useful and a proven batting lineup.

South Africa 55 all out before lunch (having won the toss)
India 153-4 in response, now India 153 all out.
EDIT South Africa 62-3 at close of play day 1, 36 behind.

Some interesting statistics in today’s play are:
Mohammed Siraj took 6-15 in the South Africa first innings.
India losing the last 6 wickets for 0 runs are the first team to lose 6 wickets without scoring a run in a Test innings.

South Africa are 162-9 with Bumrah taking 5-59 & Siraj 1-26 (after yesterdays 6-15).
South Africa lead by 64 runs with 1 wicket left.

Lunch taken after South Africa were all out for 176 (Bumrah 6-61)
India need 79 to win with 11 sessions to do it in!

When India knock off the 79 needed, this might be one of the shortest (balls bowled) Test Matches played, that produced a result!

Yes it’s turned out to be the shortest in Test history, regarding balls bowled and a result!
Also, for only the second time in Test history a debutant batsman has got out twice on their first day. In this case it was the South African batsman Tristan Stubbs, in the other case it was fellow countryman Harry Butt in 1896 at Port Elizabeth against England. Are they the Benson and Hedges respectively of South African cricket?:D

Dean Elgar was also dismissed twice in the same day, on his final Test appearance. Probably a day he will want to forget!

The Pink test is moving along at great knots.

Australia was bowled out for 299 chasing Pakistan's 313. Australia lost 5/10. Pakistan in response are 7/68 having thier own collapse of sorts. Hazelwood bowled a triple wicket maiden late in the day.

Of course it's not test cricket without a delay. Today's delay was a ball of tape on the tarp of the sightscreen.
Here's Triple M's Call of the incident.

Australia’s first squad post David Warner announced. For the test series against Windies:
Khawaja, Renshaw, Labuschagne, Smith, Head, Green, Marsh, Carey, Starc, Cummins, Lyon, Boland, Hazlewood.

Cameron Green named by CA as a certain starter. Renshaw selected after 2 recent PMXI centuries despite Bancroft’s years of top Sheffield Shield form. Green thought to be playing at 4 with a good record there for WA and management not keen to move too many players around. The question then being - who opens?

For Renshaw to come in, someone in the top 6 would need to drop out but they’ve all played rather decently recently, especially most recent re-addition Mitch Marsh who is embracing the Bazball-style fearless middle order batting. So for an opener within the team, you’re looking mainly at Labuschagne and Smith. Marnus is set at 3 so I wouldn’t move him so that leaves us with Smith, who says he could be keen. He may not be quite as good, but of course more than good enough to justify his place anywhere in the order.

You're quite right, Smithy is opening for the first time in his professional career, good luck to him.
To be fair, he should be rather decent given his usual starting very slow and accelerating very quick. Now we don’t play them for 2 years, best of luck to him as you say.

He's opened in a couple of T20s for Australia, but never in first class cricket, Apparently none of the current crop of batsmen wanted the job, so he volunteered. Full marks to him, I say, for that.

The England Test squad are off to the UAE soon for a training camp prior to the India tour. They then arrive in India on 22nd January, just three days before the first Test, with no warm up games arranged in India beforehand!

Interesting 1st day of the 1st Test in Adelaide this morning.
The W.Indies were bowled out for 188 McKenzie top scoring with a 50, Cummins 4-41 & Hazlewood with 4 - 44 were the main wicket takers.

Smithy in his first go at opening was out for 12 caught by Jason Greaves & Oz were 59-2 @ the close.

Further points of interest -

- WI were 133/9 and then added 55 for the last wicket with Shamar Joseph scoring 36 on debut batting at number 11

- Smith fell to Shamar Joseph’s first ball in test cricket, so quite a day for him

Australia recovered from 129 for 5 to 283 all out, mainly thanks to 119 from Travis Head.

West Indies had a disastrous start to their second innings, but did at least survive to the end of the second day at 73 for 6.

BBC Radio 5SX carries the ABC ball by ball commentary overnight (complete with Australian news bulletins).

Harry Brook has pulled out of the tour to India for personal reasons.

Will the ECB add a replacement?
The BBC "breaking news" report on this says:
"A statement from the England Cricket Board said selectors would confirm a replacement "in due course"."

A replacement will be needed, or there'll be a big hole in the middle order!
