My suggestion was just theory based on what I would do if I had an input into the MML. I knew it wouldn't be feasible. However, I do believe that the 360s aren't ideal, based on their current condition, and the 222s (as well as the 220s/221s) have a serious design flaw that, IMO, makes them unsuitable in the 2020s. I can't wait for the 810s to come along so at least it banishes the 222s to history.

You do have some good ideas there though. 1 train per hour to Corby is enough, and, if electrification went to Leicester, then us Wellingborough users (as well as Bedford and Luton) would get our Northbound services back, with 1 change (at Leicester) for either Nottingham or Sheffield. This would also allow all current Nottingham and Sheffield to run fast to Leicester, if there was enough stopping services via EMUs to go to Leicester.
You could split/attach at Kettering if the 12-car services materialise and run 8-cars to Leicester and a 4-car to Corby. That gives Market Harborough it's half hourly service to London, but there might then be objections to Kettering losing 2 tph if the Sheffield/Nottingham services went non-stop between St Pancras and Leicester.

Shame they can't electrify to Melton Mowbray and run 1 tph to there, leaving Corby with it's 2tph but allow Oakham/Melton to get a regular London link by extending one service. Would also need the five ex-HEx 360 units as well though, and I know they are owned separately to the 360/1s.

Route learning for Skegness summer specials perhaps? If they're running this year?
Yes on summer Saturdays from 23rd July to 10th Sept, 07.58 Derby-Skegness and 11.42 return and 09.23 Derby-Skegness and 13.44 return.
Possibly also yesterday was a gauging/proving run too as 180s I don't think have been to Skegness before.

I beleive Corby requires 2tph during peak hours at the very least, Most of the day on Fridays and Saturdays the services can get quite busy (or could be described as 'packed) with most seats taken and a few people electing to stand. This happens during the peak hours on all weekdays too. I think you could drop the frequency between about 11 and 3, Although that would be impractical, So it would just be easier not to. Having the 2tph commuter services has turned Corby into a further-afield commuter town for London, and people now rely on them in order to get to work in London, as well as those working in Luton/Bedford.

A possible soloution would be to nab the 350s that LNWR are sending off once the 730s are introduced for the theoretical Leicester stopping EMUs. I also see you mention the need for the northbound services being so that you could facilitiate a 1-change at Leicester for the Sheffield/Nottingham services, But surely this is already possible with a change at Kettering? Sure, It may be slightly less frequent between Kettering and Sheffield/Nottingham than it would be from Leicester, Although giving the 1 change frequency bonus to residents of Wellingborough takes away the direct frequency bonus from Corby, which is a bigger town.

Surely a link between a commuter town of 80,000 and a city of nearly 10,000,000 is more vital than a link between a town of 50,000 and a very widely spread population of 1,200,000 (Sheffield, Nottingham and Leicester put together) that have no commuter link. I do get that it's a very important link, and one I'd use myself, Although I still don't believe it to be more important than the current one.

I think that would be more ideal for the ROG 360/2s - available as spot hire units and have no available work at the moment. But that’s a topic for another thread.

From Luton/Bedford it’s one change at Kettering for Nottingham, but you have to change again at Leicester for services to Derby/Sheffield. It used to be one change for Derby/Sheffield and direct services to Nottingham

Ignore this reply, I thought I'd travelled on a Sheffield - St Pancras a few weeks ago that stopped at Kettering during the football disuption, But no, just remembered it was infact a Nottingham.

Can they run double 180s? Else that seems a big cut from an HST on the summer extras.

And is it motive to give it full livery for a much pictured hiGH profile service?

Given 3 of the 4 units will be out (2 for Skegness, 1 on London's) it will be unlikely that any will be doubled up.

Biggest improvement to EMR stationsbranding in recent times observed at Derby on Monday: the old bar / cafe / Upper Crust space on the main concourse which has been closed and unused since covid now has Greggs signage over the doors.

Presumably the powers that be have finally realised that incredibly overpriced baguettes and pastries that are sometimes a bit stale don't really appeal to passengers as much as normally priced, fresher baguettes and pastries.

Derby hasn’t even had over-priced baguettes since the post-covid reopening - just Pumpkin or Costa(lot). I accept that Greggs is hardly haute-cuisine but I bet it‘ll do well, especially at breakfast and lunch time.

That's very good news indeed, only drawback is that Greggs at stations tend to be more expensive than on the high street.

But still cheaper than most other food offerings in stations. I wonder how the pricing in stations compares to the same brands in motorway services? But that's probably a discussion for a different thread.

The Pumpkin at Leicester is so incredibly overpriced that I refuse to use it. I could get a sausage roll in a local Gregg's store for less than half the price of one at Pumpkin!

Speaking of, the Pumpkin at Leicester on Platforms 3 and 4 were closed during the pandemic, but has since re-opened. Can't imagine that customer numbers will be too high, especially given that (for drinks) there's also a Costa on the same platfrms.
