The newest of London’s four airport expresses, but with the oldest stock of all four by some distance (2002 built VS 2016-18 387s and 2020 745s)

Also the only one with no charging points, no Wi-Fi, 3+2 seating, no pull down tables for coffees/newspapers, no armrests, walk through gangways or additional luggage space. It will soon be the least frequent of them all too.

And the only one which doesn’t actually take you directly to the airport.

Stansted Express doesn’t take you directly to the airport? If direct you mean non stop?

Stansted Airport station is under the terminal - simply walk from the concourse up to the terminal without having go outside. Unless I’ve misinterpreted the meaning of what is meant by directly to the airport (ie where the train terminates somewhere within the terminal building)?

If EMR is retaining a number of 158 sets for the Nottingham - Liverpool service, I'm surprised one or two haven't gone aubergine by now.

Going unnoticed on here (perhaps people only notice the bad?), EMR is going through a 5 week external cleaning program with several 222s and 170s completed so far. It’s impressive to see how white they still remain after at least a year of added dirt!

Wonder if that will include the windows. I know that most passengers are just looking at their phones but I like to look out, and the build-up of dirt is pretty poor, lasted all Winter. Must be an EP problem, the NH H.S.T. windows were generally sparkling

This is good news to hear as some of the 222s on Sheffield to London have been filthy recently with the windows poor to look out of.

Yes, but it is irritating because it runs in cycles. They get absolutely filthy to the point you can't see out of the windows. Someone complains and some bad publicity makes the press. They have a load of hand bashing done. Things get better for a bit. Then it slips and we are back to square one.

They were rarely this bad under Stagecoach and the odd noises about "oh, well, the carriage washers aren't very reliable you know" doesn't really help, especially when you're trying to squint through a brown layer of nastiness to watch a train out of a platform that you can hardly see.

Watch any video of the Stagecoach era local or IC fleet and I guarantee the first thing that strikes you is how clean the trains are compared to now.

The ex GA 156/9s were an absolute disgrace from the moment they arrived until the moment they finished.

Guessing the 180 or 180's being out is due to the football with the aim probably for all the Sheffield services being 10 car due it it being hourly.

The lease hasn't expired yet. So it's probably a way of providing extra capacity for people heading to the League One Playoff final between Barnsley and Sheffield Wednesday. I think the lease expires at the end of May?

Been suggested in the EMR Appreciation group on Facebook that the lease is up in June; but either way, not long!

Just the “Sheffield Wednesday Shuttle” (as I’ll term it) to STP and back for the League One play off final at Wembley on Monday. But, as we know with 180 reliability, can’t be 100% sure until the day!

Looks like EMR has actually managed to coax 180109 and 180111 into life for their final flings / temporary stays of execution. Whether they last the day remains to be seen.
