Doesn't look like the one going to Wolverton is going to run. For some reason RTT has it as a "runs as required".

Thanks for info.

Was this 156909 to Wolverton & 156419 from Wolverton, as expected?

When will the remainder be at Northern?
When EMR have enough 170s to let them go... Which will be when WMR or TfW have enough new-fangled things to let their 170s go.

As is so often the case on the railways, it relies on a chain of events, and just one link in the chain being weakened can affect so much more!

I can imagine this will pick up starting from next month - 3 of the 4 Southern 171s start moving over in the next couple of weeks and the 196 introduction at the end of the month will enable WMR to release more of their 170s, in turn leading to the 156 cascade.

To add as well, once here they are pressing them into service before the coupler modifications so that should speed things up a bit too (they will be restricted to the Robin Hood Line because of this)

Interesting to know about the 196 introduction, I didn’t know it was that soon!

Yep, according to WMR’s Twitter, the first set should be introduced by the end of the month. Crew training runs have been happening a lot recently between Birmingham and Shrewsbury.

I’ll believe it when I see it! The 196 introduction has had a reputation for indefinite delay, something that won’t go away until we see that they’re actually running passenger services. I presume that the 196-170-156 cascade will be pretty quick once the first domino has fallen.

The last I heard was the lease on the tfw 170s is up in December so theyll likely be heading off whether or not there's enough 197s and Mk4s in service to indirectly replace them.

The difference now is there’s more tangible progress - almost all sets have completed their FFR and have been handed over to WMT, and driver and crew changes have been going on for several months now. End of September therefore seems like a realistic timeline for the first one to enter service on the Salops.

I had forgotten 418 was even there!

It does beggar belief somewhat that they are spending all this time and effort repairing the Anglian units that are rotten when they weren't even taking on all of the EMT sets that had had a C4 already - dunno if that has changed however.

Is 418 staying with EMR then as it's gone back to Etches Park?

There can't be many of the 156/9s left now with 916 (416) going into Wolverton.

I wonder if at some-point Northern will 'Northern-ist" the interiors, maybe with new seats, similar to what they did with the former Scottish units.

The rest of the Newton Heath 156s have Chapmans like the EMR stock do, so I don’t see why new seats would be fitted. The Scottish units had non-standard dilapidated Ashbournes, so it makes more sense for those to be replaced with a more modern seat.

All be with no tray tables on the airline seats
