Hi all I am hoping to poke the hive mind here to work out what discounts ir free rides I can get on trams & light rail in England,
Sheffield trams are the only trams that accept all ENCTS passes. You can use an ENCTS pass issued by any council anywhere in England on these trams. But this is the only one. The others are much more restrictive.Hi all I am hoping to poke the hive mind here to work out what discounts ir free rides I can get on trams & light rail in England,
Ah well can't blame me for asking, I know Nottingham do a discount on their TVMs and I have my disabled railcard on oyster if I bounce onto a Croydon tramlink, I belive the Tyne metro does something for visitors too but I can't remember,.
So unfortunately the trams are much more restrictive. Other than the Sheffield trams they only give free travel to ENCTS holders who live in the area.
Yes on the Nottingham trams you can purchase a £4.00 concession day ticket if you have an ENCTS pass issued by any other English council or authority which certainly saves some money.Ah well can't blame me for asking, I know Nottingham do a discount on their TVMs and I have my disabled railcard on oyster if I bounce onto a Croydon tramlink, I belive the Tyne metro does something for visitors too but I can't remember,
I do have friends in Sunderland so have been debating a trip for a while, wanna try and get some of the old and new stock while they're in hybrid working, currently hoping for a stint in September and having my ENCT as a gold card would certainly make the toon more attractive too me. I mentioned on another thread I need to pop up to the NE to do Beamish.Yes on the Nottingham trams you can buy a £4.00 concession day ticket if you have an ENCTS pass issued by any other English council or authority.
Tyne & Wear Metro sell a heavily discounted annual ticket giving unlimited travel on all Tyne & Wear trains (and Northern between Newcastle and Sunderland and the Shields Ferry service) for ENCTS pass holders. This costs £12.00 for ENCTS passes issued by Tyne & Wear or costs £24.00 for ENCTS passes issued by any other English council or authority. It is good value if you use it a lot.
But it is worth pointing out that this Tyne & Wear Metro ticket is only good value and cheaper than full price day tickets if you plan to use the Tyne & Wear Metro multiple times a year.
No unfortunately it has not. The new Northumberland Line is excluded. The website states that the Gold Card is not valid on the new Northumberland Line services.I do have friends in Sunderland so have been debating a trip for a while, wanna try and get some of the old and new stock while they're in hybrid working, currently hoping for a stint in September and having my ENCT as a gold card would certainly make the toon more attractive too me. Do need to check if the Northumberland line has been added to the Gold card though,
No discount for Railcard holders on the London Trams, they're charged on the same scale as buses (flat fare £1.75 for unlimited journeys within an hour). Touch in only, no need to touch out (except at Wimbledon).I have my disabled railcard on oyster if I bounce onto a Croydon tramlink
Not the news(ham) I wanted to hear I'll mind my manors on this forum though. No unfortunately it has not. The new Northumberland Line is excluded. The website states that the Gold Card is not valid on the new Northumberland Line services.
There's also the bus/tram through tickets that cover the full route.Blackpool, for part of the route
Might add that or just get a zone 1 ticket when passing through on Saturday, due to engineering I've opted to use Ciltern from snow Hill rather than my usual route(s), that and any excuse to use the loco hauled is always a benefit,Some tram systems are also covered by Plusbus tickets which give a railcard discount. Blackpool, for part of the route, and Birmingham/West Midlands for the whole route are definitely covered and Nottingham trams are included but it isn't clear whether that is the whole route to Hucknall or just part of it.
In Greater Manchester you have to pay £10 a year to add trams (and trains) to the pass. If you don't pay, you only get bus travel. (Details on the TfGM website.)Manchester trams accept ENCTS passes issued by Transport For Greater Manchester only. No other councils passes are accepted.
I think it covers the whole way out to Toton and Clifton, but only Moor Bridge and Phoenix Park on the northern branches. At least that's what I covered when I did the network on a Nottingham Plus Bus. No issues with conductors.Nottingham trams are included but it isn't clear whether that is the whole route to Hucknall or just part of it.
That almost seems pointless to offer that as using the Arriva bus is so much simpler. Arriva have twelve buses an hour in each direction (every five minutes in each direction) with a journey time of five minutes. If you have an ENCTS pass then it is so much simpler to just walk outside and take the bus then going to all that trouble of doing it online. I wonder if Luton DART have done that purposely to discourage ENCTS pass holders from using it. Making you sign up for an account and then apply for tickets in advance makes it so complicating that almost nobody will bother. Also the majority of people who do not have internet access will be ENCTS holders. If they really wanted ENCTS holders to use it then they could easily just allow them to tap their card on the barriers or show it to the gateline assistant. You can travel for free on the Luton DART,* but only with tickets obtained through an online concessionary account (which you have to apply for 3 working days in advance).
[* Usually £4.90 per adult single]
Well, without internet access they probably won't have booked flights either, so there will be nothing for them to worry about. Also the majority of people who do not have internet access will be ENCTS holders.
It's designed for Luton residents and potentially older airport workers to be able to use the DART really. The airport and DART are owned by Luton Council, so this is their real plan. That almost seems pointless to offer that as using the Arriva bus is so much simpler. Good go note, got stung by arriva Wales on a couple of occasions last time I travelled with them as unlike England they don't have a fare cap,
Was a while ago mind, although it's where I got my profile pic on here from was that trip,Yes, same, before I knew about 1Bws... Shocking reminder of how expensive bus travel is without the cap!
