Ex-EMR 180109 was transported from Ely to Widnes overnight last night. Does anyone know what the purpose of this is? I can't see this on any existing threads.

180110 was with them for a brief while. Do they really need more 180s?Hopefully being reinstated/repainted to bolster GC's ailing fleet, that location is an Alstom facility that undertakes such work.
I wouldn't have thought so given the fact that they have 12 units and only ten journeys per day to operate. Could it be being serviced ahead of leasing from a TOC? Possibly.180110 was with them for a brief while. Do they really need more 180s?
Are GC giving up the 221s any time soon?I wouldn't have thought so given the fact that they have 12 units and only ten journeys per day to operate. Could it be being serviced ahead of leasing from a TOC? Possibly.
In September someone reckoned they had been extended to,”summer 2025”.Are GC giving up the 221s any time soon?
I know it's a bit off topic, but loco hauled 180 carriages would have been a great HST replacement.
In another world!
I read that they were designed by some of the same people..?They do look similar to the MK5 carriages...
When the 175s and 180s were new, I always felt that from a passenger perspective they felt like an updated MK3. 156s are a more common comparison with 175s though due to the similar roles... and the shared manufacturer, albeit via a change in ownership. They do look similar to the MK5 carriages...
Judging by the video - no, i assume because theyd possibly blow off during transit?Does the unit still have the sheeting over the intermediate vestibules - supposedly to prevent water leaks?
I've heard a rumour that NR are sniffing around for a replacement for the NMT.Any updates on this?
After all the expense of commissioning an ETCS installation for their ‘yellow’ Class 43s??I've heard a rumour that NR are sniffing around for a replacement for the NMT.

Now that would be interesting if true. *Insert the NMT will be going nowhere joke*I've heard a rumour that NR are sniffing around for a replacement for the NMT.
But not the off-lease units.
Actually, the 10 GC 180s are already fitted...![]()
Would they have to pay themselves delay minutes every time the 180 breaks down and blocks the line?I've heard a rumour that NR are sniffing around for a replacement for the NMT.
180113 according to Railcam.Drag went ahead as planned. I missed what number 180 was dragged as I was in awe of the sound 37901 was making:
