According to the North Devon Journal website, the Tarka Line could be closed for another week and a half with the engineering works being significantly delayed, plus the ballast and trackbed being washed away in numerous locations along the line.

On a train...somewhere!
Having just seen the latest email from LNE Control the situation is pretty bad, ECML subject to various issues with TCFs, high river levels and ESRs of 5mph and 10mph. Serious issues on the Durham Coast likely to continue tomorrow and various other secondary routes affected. Of note, Wilton is shut to traffic and coal loading at Immingham is also delayed by flodwater.

Why would FGW be calling at any of the stations on the route?

The limiting length would likely be the length of the loops and Axminster and wherenot.

I agree fitting in stations would be an issue but the last Exeter to Salisbury train on Fridays is often 9 coaches (or at least used to be) and that calls all stations to Yeovil.

I'm informed 91110 working 1Y08 0556 Newcastle to Kings Cross has brought down the wires south of Ferryhill. NRE says trains are running through with delays of 2 1/2 hours.

Double 159 went past my window Exeter-bound at half 8 this morning, and there *appears* to now be a limited service resumed on SWT Exeter - Waterloo.

The West of England line has re-opened today, but with a 2 hourly service only and of course is subject to quite a few TSRs en-route.

In the floods of June 2007, the M1 came dangerously close to being flooded not far from here.

I remember that, that was the Dam near the M1.

Sounds like buses are replacing trains between Swinton ( South Yorks ) & Doncaster due to flooding of the River Don at Mexborough / Coinsborough

FGW Update:

Swindon - Bristol Parkway: Both lines are opened with a 50mph speed restriction on Down.

Oxford: Flooding at Hinksey, 5mph restriction on up line, down reopened.

AFAIK FGW are not taking the Yeovil route tomorrow at least so the only Westcountry to London route will be with SWT

Not completely.

1A77 05:41 Penzance - London Paddington and 1C92 18:03 London Paddington- Penzance will be the only TWO Fgw services running via 'The Mule'. Apart from that though, the main london bound services will be the every 2 hourly SWTs between Exeter & Yeovil, with hourly Waterloo - Yeovil services.

So no down Golden Hind to Taunton then. Will it be first stop Exeter St Davids after Reading? Also interesting choice of 0541 to run through to Paddingon rather than the 0505 up Golden Hind.

Schedule shows a stop at Yeovil Jn 1941-1949. This puts it behind the 1720 Waterloo which departs at 1944, so it'll almost certainly be delayed by the SWT service if it's not already late.

Fortunately it looks like there is going to be better weather for the rest of the week.
Hopefully all the flooding will subside so everything can get repaired and back up and running again.
Network rail do a great job with emergency repairs all credit to their engineering teams.

Thank you, google and this forum search is not giving me any useful explanation. To a simple civil engineer could you explain what this consists of?
Temporary Block Working is employed when there has been multiple signal failures over a given stretch of line. The Driver is provided with a ticket appropriate to his train that describes the points between which TBW has been introduced, the signals that are to be passed (with the authority of the ticket),the level crossings that are being locally operated by flag or light and any speed restrictions that need to be adhered to - 15 mph over facing or trailing points/50 mph throughout the whole movement. This information is also given verbally to the Driver before the ticket is issued and any movement commences.Hope this helps?

1803 now changed to not stop at Yeovil so does that mean it runs normal route throughout and will be the first train between Tiverton and Exeter? If it is still diverted it'll be a race to see who gets to Yeovil J first as SWT are running 17 late and so should be just behind it which would make more sense than fGW crawling behind it to Exeter.

Passed Chard at 2015 so now in front of 1L53.

18:03 Pad - Penzance now not stopping at Yeovil Junction, and a 20:39 XC service from Plymouth - Edinburgh shown on LDBs... does this mean Cowley Bridge is now open or is this just LDBs playing up?

Amazing effort by Network Rail if they have got Cowley Bridge open again already!

It would be indeed. Not believing till I see it at the moment mind!

Aww the 20:39 Plymouth - Edinburgh has now been cancelled

Apologies if I'm missing something here, but is that time and destination correct? What ungodly hour would that arrive in EDB?

05:32 it was booked for

I never thought it would run for one minute, it would be one incredible relief service if it had. Live Departure Boards was showing it as running and still exists (but is cancelled) according to my XC app! ;)
