As I drove passed Selhurst depot this afternoon (about 1540) an 8 car 387 was coming out of the depot, the rear unit had GN branding and big bold writing on the coaches.
Are GX loaning units to GN again

I did see this unit pass London Bridge Platform 5. Front 4 coaches were GX and rear 4 were Great Northern operated by GX. Anyone have any idea where they're going?

I've no idea why the 387s are doing this. Has been happening for the past few months now.

Does anyone know if the 387s will continue to do these runs or will they eventually stop? If so, when?

From what I’ve gathered, there are moves north for exam work, and moves south for project aurora. 201 came down to Brighton with another /2 as an 8 car, was split off then sent to back up to Selhurst. Apparently easier to do than find a path across Norwood junction.

I believe they are starting to return now, and they are needed especially soon as the 313s will be withdrawn in May.

Rear unit was spotless, looked to be a transfer to GN. Could it be a loaner unit whilst individual /1's visit Selhurst for modification work.

A lot of the Gatwick /2's seem to be sitting around, so maybe slack on the fleet.

Since the /3s arrived from C2C/GWR, isn't the only 387/2 now with Great Northern 201. The others which were north of the river returning a few months back due to the 455s departing?

All bar 387201 have been back with Gatwick Express for some time now, probably close to six months.

I’ve been meaning to ask what is the current GN 387 situation, as I’ve lost track a little.

Is it the 29x original GN 387/1s, plus the 6x LTS 387/3s, plus 387201?

I thought the GN allocation was now supposed to be 35x, so is 387201 covering for units going away for refurb or ETCS?

Can anyone say how many GN 387 and 700/0 diagrams the May timetable will have?

Yes, 387101 - 387129, 387201 and 387301 - 387306 is the GN fleet at present. 387202 - 387298 went back south in August 2022. 387101 is away until the summer for first in class fitment of the gubbins for ECTS. As of 19/1/23 when I last had a move with 387201 it was running around branded " Great Northern operated by Gatwick Express".

Are there any plans to (re)fit wifi to the 387/3s, or are we going to be stuck with many of the carriages that operate the Ely/Kings Lynn services being without wifi for the forseeable?

(Maybe I'm just having bad luck if the balance of 387/3s is only 6 out of a total of 36, but it certainly feels like we get one of them at least half the time).

Tonight at Hitchin I saw a half GN half GWR 387 in the platform whilst a half GN half Gatwick Express zoomed down on the fast.

The GN is a very colourful place these days! The red unit is 387201, the only red unit on the GN since last August when the others returned south.
