I've booked tickets for a group of seven people to travel from London Liverpool Street to Cambridge on November 11th, returning later the same day. One of the people has now dropped out. Given the T&C of GroupSave, which states that

All customers travelling on Tickets, including those with a London Travelcard, with GroupSave discount must have the same origin, destination and route, and all customers who are part of a Group must travel together at all times when using those Tickets.

is the ticket still valid, or do I need to cancel, rebook for the correct number of people and suck up the admin fee for the cancelled ticket?

Thanks!

How many people have you booked for?

Sorry, that’ll teach me for skim reading. There’s seven, now six of you.

Have these been issued as individual tickets with “Groupsave” applied as if it were a railcard discount? Six is still a valid group, you shouldn’t have any difficulties.

The GroupSave discount is valid from 3 to 9 people. As long as the correct number of people (between 3 and 9) are travelling together, the discount is valid.

Each passenger should get an individual ticket when the National GroupSave discount is applied, as is the case here.

As such, as long as at least three people are still travelling you'll be okay.

It should also be possible to get a refund for the unused ticket, though an admin fee is likely to apply and you'll probably have to phone them as the online system is unlikely to handle refunding one ticket out of seven.

With this sort of ticket there is no advantage to buying so far ahead of travel. IMHO better to wait till the day of travel (or day before) when changes to group composition are less likely.

Definitely three people minimum in this group, so hopefully ok. The person who has pulled out has agreed to cover the cost of their ticket and any admin charges if I need to rebook, so fingers crossed it'll be ok.

Thanks for the confirmation. :)
