Examples from today would be eastbound start from Bath. IET did well to Bathampton Jn and matched typical HST time, but after that HST romps away and going 15 mph or more faster out of Box tunnel.

IET did well from BPW to Westerleigh Jn. But 96 coming out of Sodbury Tnl ebd compares with 110 for an HST. I'd call that no contest!

Met up with various colleagues from RPS today and we are chewing over our first impressions, but initial consensus is like the train, but its underpowered on diesel.

On electric it will be no contest again.

Is this WITH the software mod to uprate the engines?

Yes they are. I was on the 0700 from London to Bristol.

There was a slight problem during despatch at Reading but it was resolved fairly quickly as there were two Hitachi Engineers on the train.

Waiting at Paddington for 1A11, about 20 minutes down. Held outsides Hayes & Harlington for a while.

The figure of 110 coming out of Sodbury for an HST is not one that I recognise, at least recently. However following yesterday's mod note we should not be discussing it in this thread.

The RPS archive has a record of 359 start to stop runs between BPW and SWI, incl a few of mine.

The two most recent logs (not mine) show HSTs coming out of Sodbury Tunnel at 108 and 110 mph.

If this isn't the right place to be discussing this I would be grateful if moderator could direct me to the correct thread.

Regards.

Because of the excitement yesterday we allowed some off-topic discussion in this thread but it's time to get back to diagrams only please!

Further discussion of things like performance (which is very interesting so thank you for posting it!) should be done on the main 800 thread which can be found here :)

Just to clarify something - there are 7 traffic sets available at this point. 4x passenger diagrams, 1x traffic spare and 2x driver training units. So not exactly swimming with spare capacity. Any further sets that might be on depots are not yet released into traffic.

Worth highlighting that Diagram 2 can't work until the Sunday morning blockades at Reading are finished on the 5th November, so no point getting up specially until the 12th.

And this Sunday it appears there is no 13:05 Bristol Temple Meads to Paddington due to engineering works
