There’s no long term plan for 2+3. They’ve cut some sets down to match with spare vehicles to get an extra set out. Once GW16 appears they should all go back to 2+4.

14 sets in total, plus various spare vehicles. I think there’s three vehicles still to come, but no full set. I wouldn’t be surprised if an extra set was formed from the spares, particularly whilst the 80x fiasco is ongoing.

From what I can see on GW's books, I too wouldn't be surprised to see another set being formed up and sent up to Doncaster soon too.

I was thinking more of the spares that have already been, or are being converted. The first batch included 2 x TGS and 2 x TSD spares, the current batch has 1 x TGS and 2 x TS as spares. 7 vehicles spare for 14 sets is massively excessive, so I would not be surprised to see an extra set formed with the spares left as 2 x TGS and 1 x TSD.

Ah, that's a good point. I was thinking more on the lines of using up the un-converted vehicles, as a 3 coach set sans TGS seems to have appeared at Laira. Converting those additional vehicles would allow for at least 2 extra sets using the 2 TGS + TSDs (1 x 4 car and 1 x 3 car).

If there will be a long term small shortage of units for Paddington expresses then culling an odd Penzance/Plymouth train at Exeter on arrival ex London to save sets with an Intercity style short set HST connection further West could be justified in the short to medium term. That's what was done on a bigger scale during the first 5 or 6 days of the crack issues anyway.

Presumably that’ll be warranty work on the Mk3s, though a few of the power cars could already do with a repaint, 093 being one of them.

Incorrect I am afraid. There is no 48138 and 48139 but 48136 and 48137 are still to come.

GW12 and 13 will be formed as follows:
GW12: 49112, 48136, 48134, 48137
GW13: 49113, 48149, 48135, 48150

49117 will be the only "spare" vehicle.

There's two additional vehicles been added to the programme by the looks of it. 48136/137 are additional. It would be interesting to know when that was approved.
