You could also spend 2½ hours travelling from Bedford to Brighton on a train without a toilet
You'd have to be pretty unlucky for all 3 toilets (or 5, if you're on a 12 car) on a 700 to be out of use
There are currently 11 sets with three more on the way. Three of the vehicles that will *presumably* become GW12 are currently spares.I read on here about Castle HST set GW13 - is this one of the few extra sets that the DfT wanted GWR to consider? It was something like that apparently.
Yes there are 4 spare carriages with current 11 sets (two TGS and two TS) so it makes you wonder if one or two more spares will be converted then with 3 more sets to be done now-as as above if you use 3 out of 4 spares for GW12 this will only leave one spare (a TGS). Not so much of a problem now but next year could be.There are currently 11 sets with three more on the way. Three of the vehicles that will *presumably* become GW12 are currently spares.
How many sets are in daily use now?
Has it increased from 8?
Would make sense to try and make mainline duties Castle Set and IET worked as much as possibleThe Extra sets are likely to replace the current 3 158 diagrams on the Exeter-Penzance corridoor, with those 158 units available for Cornish branchline work, Devon Metro and Bristol area services in order for pacers to be retired. There will have to be some jiggery pokery with those diagrams, as currently, those 158 diagrams are all connected with eachother with attachments and detachments at various points in the day.
Thanks for the info, does sounds exciting and hopefully the plans will come to fruition without to much of a hitch that rolling stock plans often do!I believe the few extra castle sets will be enough to see off the 143s yes along with 1 or 2 3 car 165s moving West. I think the future plan for EXM<>PGN is to have 5 x double 150/2s and 2 x 16x workings. There are now 10 additional 150/2s staying with GWR which were originally due to leave to help support additional capacity.
43088/156/160/162 are at Wabtec; could be two (or more!?) of them heading home? There’s also 4 XC trailers still there.I notice there is a path for a Doncaster to Laira for Tuesday 23rd any ideas if this is likely to run and what it could be?

From what I have seen with the vehicle numbers on the current sets, is that GW93 (the 3 car set at present) only requires one more vehicle (48136) and then it will end up becoming GW12 which would mean that then GW13/14 will then only be the two more required:Yes there are 4 spare carriages with current 11 sets (two TGS and two TS) so it makes you wonder if one or two more spares will be converted then with 3 more sets to be done now-as as above if you use 3 out of 4 spares for GW12 this will only leave one spare (a TGS). GW93 currently only has one vehicle in it (48134). 49112 is in GW08, as is 48135. Saw them come through Abbey Wood this afternoon, running a bit early and looking very tidy. This was more or less straight after a Cardiff-Taunton set and a cross country HST set had passed each other in the station, nice to see so many working in such a short spell.

GW08 is back in its correct formation: 48124 48123 48122 49108Realistically a few spare carriages will be required (depending on the number of planned diagrams), GW08 is currently formed 49112 48135 48123 48124, presumably 49108 & 48122 are undergoing maintenance.
One of the Laira drivers said it was now nameless and being sent off lease43172 ran solo from LA to PM this morning where it will join up with 43171 and head to Long Marston. There it will collect six Mk3s and head to Doncaster for conversion. No idea if it will keep it's livery before anyone asks.
