Yes, they'd already be well past Ely.
They've been reported this evening as overnighting in the Soham area, suggesting they may be heading to Ely. Perhaps routed that way for clearance reasons?

What is in the consist of GW14? And to save me asking this question each time, is there a list somewhere of the GWR formations?

Thanks.

I wonder how much these HST Coaches and Power Cars are being sold for - probably never get to know that - after all these years people are willing to

pay money for these vehicles - good old British Workmanship. Long life the HST where ever you are. ------ Peter.

Are they being sold or leased?

Am I right in saying that the slam door examples are Mexico bound, and the sliding door ones heading to Nigeria?

The HSTs are going to an entirely separate project, the Ferrocarril del Istmo de Tehuantepec.

As noted earlier in the thread, at least one train is already in "Corriedor Interoceanico" livery.

HSTs being used on a line with a maximum speed for passenger trains (according to Wikipedia) of 100 km/h... Heh

In the case of the exports, there may be more than one option for the end buyer (e.g. in Mexico they may well have had a look at ex-Amtrak equipment)
According to Wikipedia, they already have ex-Amtrak (and ex-UP) equpiment: Two ex-Union Pacific SD70M locomotives, 12 ex-Amtrak passenger cars (including three Amfleets) and one ex-privately owned Dome car (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Ferrocarril_Transístmico#Rolling_stock)

No, both countries are getting a mixed fleet. Some are destined to only be part donors.

Any thoughts on the fate of FGW buffet 40902, on the move as 5Z32 today Eastleigh - Gt Yarmouth?

I think the destination is a give away for that one. Surprisingly though it was one owned by LSL.
They wanting a buffet service in Mexico?! :D

Spares I guess. Hadn’t realised any were still knocking about in ex-service condition, they keep on emerging from the woodwork!

Some HSTs and coaches are being used on UK heritage lines rated for just 25mph... way less than the 100km/h (roughly 60mph) that you talk about, and also way less than their rated speed of 125mph.

The good thing is that these coaches are finding a second use elsewhere (even if not in the UK), which is what the first lot of LNER/EMR ones should have had (instead of being Newport'ed).

The Well There's Your Problem podcast recently did an episode on the delivery of the ex Amtrak and Dome cars with the person responsible for sourcing and delivering the vehicles as a guest. The whole project sounds fairly shambolic.
He was also concerned by the possibility of the HST and US stock operating on the same lines.

Whilst I enjoy the guys at WTYP it's perhaps worth noting that a) they're not for everyone and b) they take a more light hearted approach to their subject rather than a rigorous scientific approach. This episode is a good one however and especially the delivery of the US vehicles well enters into the realms of laughing because otherwise you'd cry.

I agree, I think they hit a lot of good points. I think the main one to take away from their discussions is that they believe there is substantial evidence to suggest that the crash-worthiness and general build of these HSTs is NOT up to specification for the Mexican railway. They unfortunately state several times that they believe injuries are inevitable.

Probably not unreasonable to suggest either given the state of some of those ex-LNER/EMR unrefurbished coaches when they were still in service a few years ago.

Various reasons were stated not least:
- Age and subsequent rust
- Lack of crumple zones and adherence to modern crash standards
- General track condition being poorer than UK standards
- Accident damage from another NA loco could be more severe
- Rail-on-road collisions could be more severe
- Lack of obstacle deflectors

Are all the ex XC examples now at Yarmouth awaiting export?
No.
43285 is in use with Colas on test trains.
43301, 43357, 43303 & 43321 are at Old Dalby for In Cab ETCS fitment and testing

Ah, from crashing! Well yes quite possibly, but is contemporary South American rolling stock usually much better? If the Mexican railway system is being run on the basis that “crashproof” trains are needed then I’d say they’ve got bigger problems!

Suggested elsewhere that the Louise Auerbach, due to dock at Yarmouth on 31/1, will be taking the next batch of HSTs for export.

The Louise Auerbach is currently docked at Great Yarmouth. (The reported location is "UKC-North Sea" but the live map shows that the ship is docked.)

Power cars are 43007/306/307/316/320/378 and possibly 43295. Coaches - take your pick from the 40 at Great Yarmouth currently.

The Power Cars are reported to be: 43295 43007 43306 43307 43316 43320 and 43378: It is also reported that 18 trailer car are going on this shipment - it seems a lot of vehicles to be going on one shipment (25 in total). The identity of the trailer cars would be gratefully received !
