Most countries have something similar and call it something else. In the US it's 'steak sauce', Japan call it 'tonkatsu sauce' and in a lot of east and southeast Asia its similar to many sweet and sour sauces.

Slightly off topic, but not much.

I had to sit watching a friend of mine put tartare sauce on a 'Spoons breakfast once. He did it intentionally and claimed to enjoy it. I was too sleep deprived and hungover to properly clock it at first.

Thoughts please? :D

You'll need to find a new name for brown sauce then - if it's fair to name one by its colour, then it's fair to do the same for all of them. Not sure I want 'white sauce' on my sandwich though!
HP Sauce will do, no others need apply.

Preference for brown but if I happen to be having two bacon sandwiches, I like the anarchy of having tomato sauce (I never say ketchup, nor do I ever say red sauce) on one sandwich and brown on the other.

That's what I do as well. Likewise with sausages.

But if pushed, it's tomato on bacon, brown on sausages

I don’t like bacon rolls anyway, but I think I would apply the same rule as I do to similar products. If the filling is good quality I am not going to ruin the taste by smothering it in something and if it is poor quality I am not going to eat it at all.
I rarely have sausages, you just do not know what is inside them, best avoided.
I prefer bacon rinsed to remove the coating of salt before cooking, the flavour is far better after a quick rinse under the tap, and the bacon must be well-cooked.

I'll occasionally have ketchup on a bacon roll, but I prefer them without. I'm not a big fan of brown sauce, but if I'm having sausage in a roll I'll quite happily have it with barbecue sauce if I have any in the house.
Yes I would definitely say I prefer barbecue to either of the two in the debate

Brown all day long.
I do have tomato sauce in the fridge, Mrs T must put it on something. Last time I used it was for hot dogs (proper ones)

For bacon, sausage, or bacon and sausage sandwich/toast then it's brown sauce for me. But if there's egg included or an all-day breakfast then tomato sauce it is. I might put tomato on sausage alone, but never bacon. That's a kid's sandwich. :lol:

I haven't read all the posts, but did vote ketchup. Brown sauce is just a bit nuts, I've used it a few times and it's just not for me.

However! I must throw into the ring my preferred option, and if you haven't tried it with your preferred meat or meat-alternative then I'd highly recommend it:

In my case, specifically Sainsburys' sweet and tangy BBQ sauce. That one is vegan-friendly, hence my specific choice. Yesterday, I had a Warburtons soft pitta bread with 3 Linda McCartney Lincolnshire-style sausages, adding a bit of BBQ sauce to finish the bottle off, and wow that was nice :D

There's plenty of things I'll have BBQ sauce on, and that includes microwaveable rice (try it, go on I dare you, it's amazing) or if I'm feeling ultra lazy then I'll just put a load of it on slices of bread and put them together. I've also used it with a plate of vegetables before now, again I dare you to try it! Go on, try it and when you love it thank me later :D

Fully expecting some reactions there, of course!

Brown every time for me.

A nice dollop on the side of a cooked breakfast. On my chips. Added to soups and casseroles to give a bit of zing.

How do people rate Worcester Sauce (or Hendersons Relish) for chips etc .......

That sounds almost as bad as the weird American thing of washing chicken (complete with dish soap o_O ) before cooking it.

To be fair, there is probably benefit in washing chicken (sans dish soap) before using it, if one happens to be in the USA. Their animal husbandry and butchering standards leave a lot to be desired - which is the basis of the ban on sale of their chicken over here (for now).

As to washing bacon, I've never done that but a very good cooking style is to start with a little bit of water in the pan so that the initial cooking process is closer to boiling than frying. The rashers don't curl up immediately and so cook a lot flatter which means that they brown more evenly once the water evaporates.

Not sure I am tempted,I don’t really like the sweet and savoury combination.
It's worth trying. The popular American combo of bacon, pancakes and maple syrup sounds awful but works surprisingly well.

Absolute breakfast of champions and always delicious. Enough calorific and stodge content on a plate to keep you fuelled and active well into the evening especially if you go all-in on the syrup.

Probably not a good idea to go too hard on the syrup since it'll just give you a glucose spike, followed by the inevitable crash afterwards.

When it comes to a bacon roll or a breakfast wrap (god, I miss when McDonald’s did those), which are you going for?

(There is no neither option. If you hate both, pick which you hate least, or you can always skip the poll ;))
needs English mustard added to the list to be a real choice
