Hello all,

Could someone please shed some light on SBI?

Does the STAR method work in SBI? I’d appreciate if someone could share atleast one example step to step how to answer using SBI please. I am not trying for exact scenario but willing to understand the best way to answer.

Videos on youtube or internet are not helpful because all the STAR method questions are relevant to previous experience but for TFL, they would ask how we would deal with the situation. I have already failed once in the final round. Still could not understand where It went wrong.

Any little information would possibly help me prepare well for the

On the progress line, what does it currently show?

My references are also done too, and ETW is also done.

Does anyone know if the training are done once a month or do they have multiple courses at one time? As I can do Sep but then away for first week in October. Do you think I can tell them that when they offer me a course that Nov would be better?
What does your progress line say if you don’t mind me asking.

Mine progressed today and I got a message saying my DBS is complete. Literally a couple minutes after I got a message saying they are checking my DBS.

Hi
What scenario did you have?
Hi, during the SBI I had the similar scenarios like couple with e scooters, a group of youths in a fight and damaging the property, one of the passengers asking if there is any lift option in the next station and 2 other scenarios.

Could you shed some light as to how STAR method can be applied here ? Or how you have handled your SBI? It helps me correct myself

Sure.

So mine was just the youths on e-scooters. They were causing mayhem frightening elderly and children, with of them even falling on commuters - all this was happening on the non-paying side of the barriers. For the purpose on the SBI, I was on the other side of the gates.

Eventually 2 tapped in with e-scooters and the rest were trying to pushed in.

I was asked to basically resolve the issue.

1) Calm tone and relaxed body language approach
2) Build rapport - I understand you guys think it’s fun, I’ve been there but this is not the place. You’re putting people safety at risk.
3) Then you explain that it is illegal to ride scooters oh the TfL network and that you’re actually doing them a favour by advising them to kindly leave. If they had been stopped BTP, they would have confiscated their scooters.
4) If they listen and leave - Great. If they don’t, I said I would get on the radio and ask for PA for BTP and if I’m by myself for a colleague and/or supervisor to assist. You reinforce that because they’re putting other commuters at risk they will have to exit the station
5) You explain for those who were trying to evade fare, they will be prosecuted. Its about giving them the greatest deterrent in the hope they feel it’s not worth it and leave
6) also at no times put yourself in danger, they’ve already shown that they like causing havoc. Dont be a super hero.

I was then ask questions like ) what are dangers of having e-scooters and what are the hazards of e-scooters blocking the barriers.

That’s all I can remember

It says 'checks sent' my DBS is back and has been for a while, so I don't what is the issue. Called them yesterday and they said they have everything that they need.

Just explain in detail why you are doing what you are doing and the reasons why.
Prepare for follow up questions like what important skills are needed for the role of csa

This is what was bottom of my confirmation email for test/assessment.

We require you to give a minimum of 48 hours’ notice of cancellation (excluding weekends and public holidays) Non-attendance or failing to provide the 48 hours’ notice cancelling the assessment will unfortunately lead to your application being withdrawn.

Please note: Your interview may be rescheduled once only (If require notice has been given) and reschedules will only be granted if there are interview slots available, so please make sure you check you can make your scheduled appointment as soon as possible. Subsequent cancellations will unfortunately lead to your application being withdrawn.

I would contact the HVT and see if you don't get any email within a few days.

Hello all, just wanted to ask about how I should prepare and if there is anything I should know for the roleplay, as I have mine soon so I'd greatly appreciate any advice.

There is lots of info on Roleplay in previous applicants forums. It’s how I’ve managed to secure lots of info. Also the tfl website for certain scenarios is well worth looking into!

This is the exact same scenario I had yesterday, if I had read this I reckon I would’ve passed because I handled the smoking and vaping parts pretty well, it was just the lost property part that I didn’t succeed in. I’m so annoyed but it is what it is
I went through to the last stage, which is role play and interview, but there were no dates available so I couldn't book and now they closed my invitation. Can someone explain why this happened? Firstly was invitation showed as closed now it shows as no invitations. Please advise on that. Is there any number I can ring in regards to that?

Give them a call: 020 3005 1680

Hi there, quick question regarding Reed screening. I’ve been told that my references have been passed, DBS done etc., They are on quality checks now. Those who have passed this stage, how long did it take for the screening to be completed for you? I’ve applied for CSA2 FT.

In the same position as you. The quality checks seem to be taking quite a while - hopefully shouldn’t be much longer

i've been waiting for almost 3 weeks, called them and there is a big backlog of the checks so it is taking longer than expected.

Dear Forum Members,

I need an urgent response as I have little time to respond to TFL by 3 PM. I was initially offered a part-time contract for 20 hours a week at £24,051 with London Underground. At the occupational health test center, I failed the hearing test due to hearing loss in my left ear, and I also wear a hearing aid. Initially, I was told that I was fit for employment and that my hearing was not an issue for the CSA role. HR even provided me with a contract for my employment two weeks ago and gave me a start date of August 5th.

However, a week ago, occupational health expressed concerns about my hearing. Although they initially cleared me, they now require a letter from my audiologist, which I provided as soon as possible. Today, the business informed me that occupational health is still not satisfied with my hearing and that I cannot perform critical decision-making at work. Consequently, the business has decided to reduce my pay from £24k to £19k. Typically, the first four weeks of full-time training come with full-time pay at £33k, but I was told I would only receive £23k.

This is extremely unfair to me. I was told to either stand down from my training if I'm not happy with the new contract and wait for a risk assessment, which they do not know when it will happen, or take up the new contract with the reduced pay, attend the full four weeks of training, pass the training, and then raise this issue with the management team.

Any help?

Thank you.

Were you offered CSA1 and now being offered CSA2? CSA2s do not undertake safety critical work and have a lower salary as a consequence.

Everytime they confuse with CSA1 and 2. Sometimes they send email to me as I'm CSA1 other times CSA2. I was in impression of getting £24051 and why not, who ever in my position would expect that. My question is ask for £24k as mentioned in the contract or take the amended contract of £19k and wait for critical assessment appointment?

I very much doubt there is much advice that this forum can offer for a specific case such as this.

It would appear they’ve offered you a conditional offer of employment whereby one of the conditions is occupational health clearance.

The occupational health report has deemed you not fit for safety critical activity, therefore you are not fit for the role for which you have applied.

They have offered you an alternative position - it’s up to you as to whether you take it, or withdraw.

Honestly, this sounds like decision only you can make. What advice can an Internet stranger give you?

Can you live on the lower salary? How does it compare to your existing salary? How confident are you you'd be able to persuade them your hearing is sufficient? What would your plan be if you had to remain on the lower salary indefinitely?

This is good advice.

Ultimately it’s unfortunate, but better to have the option of a role, albeit on a lower salary than you hoped, nothing at all.

You just need to decide whether to take up that role and pursue the issue internally (with no guarantee of things changing), or remain where you are and perhaps revisit later if things change on the medical front.

Dear Forum Members,

<snip>

Just for transparency I have offered some targeted guidance on this matter privately. I concur with all previous guidance given that it is a personal decision and no-one should take any life-changing advice from a forum - including from myself or other LUL staff members when we're posting here in a personal capacity.

For the benefit of anyone who comes across this in the future with a similar situation, always clarify exactly what grade(s) are being applied for and jobs offered, and any requirements, as soon as possible, and be prepared to join a union as soon as you've signed your contract if you feel you're going to have to escalate something like this - it's exactly what they're there for.

Personally if I was in that position I would be taking that CSA2 position asap, and counting myself lucky they offered it, as they could have just said bye, as you did not pass the health assessment.

Once your foot is in the door, many more opportunities will open up.

Hey Guys,
I was working 2 jobs in my home country, and I only put in one of the job in my reed, as that covers the remaining period of the 3years of work reference. My application was rejected and I think that was the cause, can I appeal it, explain to them I only put in one job as I was working 2 jobs and one already covered the remaining duration of the 3years.
Can I mail/call them to explain this, or has my application has been rejected, my contract has been cancelled?

That’s strange, I would’ve thought that they would ask you to explain any discrepancies (as they did for me). However, It’s important to mention that my discrepancy was due to a typo in one of the start dates I provided rather than not including one of my jobs. I think it would be best to give them a call on Monday.

Edit: Also how were you informed that your application was rejected?
