Hi all.

I had a roleplay/SBI on Friday (2nd August) that I passed.

For others that have reached this stage, how long did it take for the onboarding email to arrive? Also what is the booking process for the occupational health/ID verification tests - are there links for these in the email?

Congratulations, the email takes about 5-10 working days to arrive and the occupational heath is able to be booked once the Reed Screening is completed: However, bear in mind that this takes a while. There’s quite a few forms for you to fill out and sign but they will be emailed to you.

For the onboarding documents, do we need an in date passport or is a driving license okay? As I’ve sent mine off but worried it won’t come back in time and then won’t even have a photo of the out of date one by the time the forms have to be back!

If you’re a British or Irish passport holder then you are able to use an expired passport to prove your right to work.

Your driving license cannot be used as proof for your right to work, and can only be used as proof of address.

Passport needs to be in date to pass ID/ etc checks, same if using driving licence. Cannot use expired.

Gov.uk states that an expired passport (British or Irish) can be used to prove that you’re able to work legally in the UK.

It may do so, but that would be moot as it would not be accepted at the first hurdle - to prove who you are before even considering are you allowed to work. For that, the photo ID, passport or driving licence, has to be valid and in date.

Thanks everyone. Have to say waiting for the onboarding email is quite long just sat twiddling my thumbs!

Although it’s a positive as I am waiting for my passport to come back so every cloud!

I got offered the role on 1st August, so if I don’t hear anything by 15th August is there a particular email / phone I could contact or is it the high volume one?

Thanks

That’s the TFL Onboarding number. Give them a call if you don’t hear anything soon.

Hey, just wanted to ask whether there was any updates to your screening. Is it still on ‘checks sent’?
Yep! There is a big backlog, when I'm back from my holidays end of August I will have to chase it up.

Currently waiting for REED screening for CSA night tube. I’ve also received an email with an offer from GTR for a trainee train driver role. Am I right to assume that I won’t be able to do both roles (first 10 months is 0930-1530 class room based work as a trainee train driver) due to a potential conflict of interest, even though I tell TfL that I have now a second job?

Check as some roles require 12 hours in-between ending a shift and starting your next shift.

Hey all, I am currently starting to prepare for my role-play and SBI taking place next week. I'm aiming to collate as much information as I can within these forums and other sources to cover my bases for as many possible situations that I can. If anybody would like to exchange notes, talk privately or offer some guidance about these two exams it would be much appreciated as getting this job would mean a lot to me. Thanks in advance!

Have a look at the 2023 Applications thread there’s a lot of useful information there

2023 thread is great for info and I also suggest googling the tfl policies on some of them to gain lots more info on what’s allowed etc :) it really helped me get through!

100% you can't take both. The GTR role will be full time, and I strongly doubt you'll be able to get any concession that you never have to work weekends, or Fridays, even before we consider conflict of interest.

I'm not sure how you can even consider that it might be safe to, for example, start at say 0700 Friday with GTR, finish at 1500, then book on with LUL potentially on the other side of London at perhaps 2200, finish at 0600, then book straight back on with GTR at 0700 and repeat. You're not going to be able to get rid of the LU shifts, nor will you have enough leave to cover them, and I doubt you'd cover the rest of the GTR turns either.

Genuinely shocked that someone considering a career in a safety critical industry would even countenance this, to be honest. You're opening yourself up to both gross misconduct and potentially criminal (endangering the railways) charges (not the exact name, for the pedants, but you get the gist).

In the same position as you. The quality checks seem to be taking quite a while - hopefully shouldn’t be much longer
I’m in the REED screening process but not quite reached the ‘quality checks’ stage. Do you mind explaining what that element is/ involves? Thanks!

Thank you for the comprehensive reply.

I was only considering to do both whilst in a class room setting with GTR. I was informed that for the the first 10 months I wouldn’t be working any weekends.

Hence, why I was considering it the possibility of doing both. I would never consider it if the GTR role started as a safety critical role. In essence, it would be like going to school Monday to Friday and having a weekend job.

I’ve also spoken to a few people who have recently finished the classroom based side of the training for GTR and have said that Friday is usually 0900-1230.

My concern was more the legal side of it.
I hope I’m making sense.
Should I message you privately for more clarity?

Are the REED checks done directly against the education and work employment section you provided within your initial application? I'm worried as i automatically did that section by importing a CV - upon rechecking there are a few inconsistencies.

Hi all, I have just recently passed the written and data assessments. I have received the link to book my AC2 but it seems there are no available dates, I have seen from previous threads they release these daily around 10am - 12pm. Is anyone else still waiting and what is the longest you could be waiting for a date? Thanks everyone

Once everything is complete, they get someone else to go over all the checks to ensure that everything it’s good to go.

I wouldn’t worry too much as to what you put on your CV as when starting the screening process you have to manually apply all the employments you’ve worked and your education history - alongside with a reference for all given.

Yep! There is a big backlog, when I'm back from my holidays end of August I will have to chase it up.
If it helps I called the onboarding and screening team. They told me that checks will be completed only until TFL request your screening as quality checks don’t take long at all. They request it based on the waiting list.

So using that information given to me, I’m assuming once your screening checks are complete, you are close to be given a training date.

Check more often. I found a slot at 3pm the day it was sent.

Well done for making it this far :)

When doing the reference check what if you put down somewhere that you know have a history of not providing references? Would this be a issue

Just put a contact, if they can’t provide a reference then they’ll just ask you to verify that you worked there afaik

Hi there, thought I’d just give an update to people who are waiting for training dates.

I called the TfL recruitment team asking how my onboarding is going.

I was told that my screening has been completed and my next step would be to receive a call/email from them to book my medical.

I asked when I could receive this, however, the person over the phone could not reveal this information.

I asked rather if there’s a backlog of people that they’re working through and she told me that right now they’re getting those who were offered the role in May medical and training dates done.

I was offered the role in June and I was told that I’m half-way down the list so I’m guessing that maybe I’ll receive a message towards the end of the month/next month.

Hope this helps anybody who was wondering!

Still waiting for my screening checks to be returned, it is still in quality checks and has been for almost a month- has anyone else had any issue waiting for a long time for the checks to be completed? It says it can take up to 2 weeks- but it has been much longer than this.
