Quite possibly! I think the demand is there for a bus to serve Masons Way, but finding the correct route to serve it (I’m not sure what would be best) and also fixing the bumps might take time.
I think that in the short term, the best that can be hoped for is an extension of the 44 from Fa'side Avenue to Strawberry Corner Roundabout. It's not an ideal quick bus into the city but it would at least provide a local frequent link to Musselburgh and indeed to the city if the passenger were willing to sit on the lengthy journey.

Interestingly 20002 went from Strawberry Corner, through the new houses first, then turned around at Fa’side and then did the same in reverse. I had considered the possibility of the 113 serving it, but again I’m not sure how likely that is. That and the X44 would probably do the the job nicely.

Rerouting the X6 away from Fa’side I think would be received quite negatively.

Agreed, X44 to offer a peak time quick route to/from the city and 44 for the rest of the time.

Prentice could perhaps reroute the 111 or 112 through Masons Way also.

I still stand by and say that the 200 should have served Drum Brae North and not Clermiston, I really don’t understand why they don’t! The 21 still has the link between Hillpark and Clermiston and push come to shove you can change over buses at Drum Brae/Queensferry Road since the 21 is every 15 minutes anyway!

The 400 is at its peak currently as is the 21/200! but with the way the 200 is at ocean terminal with its awkward Ocean Drive terminus, it makes it harder to get to the bus stop with the distance/tramworks, would it not be worth looking into extending the route further east In the future?

Also off-topic but has anyone seen how busy the new section of the 34 route is?
Lots of demand on Drum Brae Drive for the 200 service. The 21 also starts slightly later than the 200.

The new journey in the early morning is very popular with airport workers and holidaymakers.

I think they would need to install a lay-by for a terminus though on Masons Way next to the Strawberry Corner roundabout though for the 44, so perhaps a through service would be more likely?

I think it’s a matter of time before either another journey is added, or hopefully the 200 and 400 become 24/7.

The 44 would be better doing this than going through Wallyford then round the new estate.

The problem with this would then be that the majority of Salters Road would lose its quick link with Musselburgh, which is well used. Sure, the 111 is available but takes a while travelling via Whitecraig and isn't suitable due to its timetable.

A layover built at the Strawberry Corner end of Masons Way would seem to me to be the best way to ensure everyone is served properly - that or extend the 44 via Masons Way to Tranent or Blindwells.

Would it be suitable for the X5 to go onto the A1 from Meadowmill for one junction, along the A199 through Masons Way, then back onto A1 at Wallyford? Just a thought that would allow most others to keep their existing routes

The X6 does the fast Wallyford-Edinburgh job. It defeats the purpose of the X5 if it has to do a tour round a new housing estate with all its traffic calming measures and speed bumps. The X5 is to provide a fast service from North Berwick, Gullane, Longniddry etc. to Edinburgh.

I passed what looked like a right out of the paintshop green and cream bus number 586 on the bypass just over an hour ago.

Knew it'd be 586. It's in green and white. Thanks for confirming! I've been interested regarding where this bus for weeks now, so it's good to now have an answer.

497 is back in service in FOTF (Fleet of the future) livery. It did a run on the 35 yesterday evening and is on the 44 today. It was seen on Shandwick Place at 10.15ish.

Just to add to that, 497’s re-entry into service has allowed 562 to move to Marine. It should move to Seafield on Monday for repaint prep and then hopefully out to Ferrymill soon after.

The interior is still in Airlink/Skylink blue.
I'm unsure what if anything has happened with the downstairs luggage rack, I've only seen pictures of the upstairs.

The luggage racks were removed, and have been on 496 too.

Rather confusing for the casual!
I rather doubt that they even notice the difference to be honest. The average punter doesn't much care for the colour scheme of a bus/train/plane. So long as they can be sure they're on the right one (service number sorts that) and it actually gets them where they're going then they're happy enough.

I see cancellations are starting to creep up again and there’s still no proper method of dealing with it from Lothian as well, just the usual app removal which is not enough.

I also fear the current timetable could even be reduced further if this keeps up.

Seen a few cancellations on X27 with 1 or 2 boards missing daily coupled with buses not tracking correctly. I do feel that in the short term the 43 would be better worked from Central to reduce dead driver time but understand there is a difference in T&C's between Country and Lothian Drivers.

I agree, it seems like a waste to run a bus from West Lothian to Edinburgh to run the 43. I understood why First did it previously as they didn’t have a depot in Edinburgh at that point but Lothian have 4 depots in Edinburgh (Central, Newbridge, Marine and Longstone). Newbridge or Central would be a better placed to operate the 43.

With regards to cancellations. The app is shocking. Also the road diversions have changed again for Elm Row and last night the app wasn’t updated.

Some movements today. 584 to Marine (doesn't mean it's for East Coast yet), 936 away to Ferrymill Motors - whether it's paint or just carrying a driver, it'll become apparent soon. 623 is on a test round the Ferrymill area so it cannot be long now.

936 and another of the batch could possibly replace 905 and 906 although it’s only a year newer but it would allow them to sell off the older vehicle or possibly it is away for a repaint and this batch will replace 841-850. We will find out in time.
