Today. Early doors. Usual health warning, especially after 1530 from Southport.

New Brighton
001 xx38
028 xx53
011 xx08

West Kirby
010 0651 then at 75 minute intervals to 1806. Then 1931 2101 2231

Southport
015: 0827 1057 1327
020: 0607 0842 115 1342
015 020: 1512 1842 2112
003 014: 0727 0957 1227 1457
014 2212
017 033: 0742 1012 1557 1827 2057

029 031: 0812 1042 1312 1542 1812 2042

And that's it. Have a good time

016 is shown sevicable at New Brighton. 002 is at Birkenhead waiting Maintenance.

Surely they won’t be allocated to the Wirral for much longer?
It's interesting, as today there is a spare and all doubles seem to be formed. A friendly guard told me two weeks back that February was the month for the end of Wirral 507s and May/June for the rest. Things change of course but it only takes two scrap moves to take out the Wirral diagrams (in theory)

002 is at nbn, has it still got a blown motor?

As reported earlier on this site, 508104 & 507004 were moved to Crewe South Yard 23.01.24, but what has happened to them since ? Surely these will be the next ones to go off to Sims at Newport ?

I believe 004 and 104 are still in Crewe. Their next move will depend on what availability Newport has, it has received quite a few units recently with all the 319 and 508 scrap moves, so could be full at the moment trying to process them all.

Any help with what 507 001 is working today (Fri 2) would be greatly appreciated. Thx.

There is also 507016 out on the Chester Line again today. It formed 2C16 (10:01 Chester to Liverpool).

There has been a small update to the Class 507 Farewell's page on the Branch Line Society website: https://www.branchline.uk/fixture_set_id.php?id=435. 507001 and 003 expected to provide the traction and a Birkenhead North start and finish.

Sadly, 507002 won't feature so no repeat of the very first Class 507 six-car formation back in October '78; I think this unit has worked its last service already. :'(

Let's hope they fix the terrible suspension in 003's 64369 before the tour or that won't be a smooth ride for the punters.

On the subject of 507 003... Can anybody please explain the camera (?) this unit has fitted at one end only. Many thanks in advance and apologies if this has been covered previously... This picture was taken at Southport yesterday during the mayhem that the failure of 777 028 at Hunts Cross caused.

Morning all,

Am heading to Liverpool today, to explore the network but more importantly try and get most units if I can. If anyone could advise what units are on what services/any good stations for photos - would be much appreciated! Got about 8 hours up there today, so am hoping to definitely get a few units at a minimum! Thanks.

Hope you have a successful day.

If you're chasing 507s, the Southport and New Brighton lines are all formed of these today. Also, the 09.05 Liverpool Central - West Kirby service was a 507 which should repeat every 90 minutes. There is sometimes the odd 507 on the Chester/Ellesmere Port section on a Sunday but normally 777s elsewhere.

Best 507-served stations for photos are Aigburth and Cressington in my opinion but there are plenty of pleasant ones on the Southport line too. I'd probably suggest Wallasey Village out of the New Brighton line ones.

Very welcome.

Today's Southport line units are, starting with the 0906 Hunts Cross - Southport: 507031, 507021, 507003, 507016 and 507029. No six-cars out so expect painful overcrowding on these; mind you, with a bust 777 still stuck at Hunts Cross, it wouldn't be possible to run pairs without curtailing the service.

There are in fact two 507s on the West Kirby line. These are 507011 (1231 off WKI) and 507020 (1301) repeating every 90 minutes.

507001 and 507002 are both in siding 1 at New Brighton but not coupled. They were joined briefly in siding 2 by 507015 and 507033 which ran empty from Southport via Kirkdale, then headed inside the shed at Birkenhead North.

It should still be possible to run 6 cars to Hunts Cross even with the 777 blocking platform 3 since platform 2 is also electrified (albeit getting in the way of Northern & TPE services and signallers having to know which services are running as the 6 cars to put them in the right platforms). Merseyrail was certainly using platform 2 around lunchtime yesterday.

They wouldn't be able to use platform 2 all day without delaying the hourly Liverpool Lime Street - Warrington Central stopper.

That's why I said "albeit getting in the way of Northern and TPE services".

However, on a Sunday timetable, a Southport train departs at XX:36, the Warrington service arrives at XX:43, and the next service from Southport doesn't arrive until XX:01, so there wouldn't be that much of a conflict between platform usage.

Arguably that might be possible on a Sunday but certainly not tomorrow, when the Warrington Central stopper is due only four minutes before the Southport arrival, and in practice is usually much less than four minutes.

Is the 777 still there? It is not showing in the map anymore. Running solely three cars tomorrow would not be good.

507003 is at Southport now. Should work the 1027 to Hunts Cross, and 1136 return, wth 507007. (003 at Southport end of formation).
