Thank you for the (admittedly conflicting ) responses :)
I suppose time will tell whether Merseyrail will have the patience to wait for 8-777 to be possible on Southports before withdrawing the 50x altogether next year, or if they’ll critically sacrifice capacity even further by axing double sets altogether while the 8-777 running is approved, so that they might get the last 50x gone.

Amidst tonight's chaos, blue 507001 has found itself on New Brighton lates having begun the day on the West Kirby line. I believe it was diagrammed to transfer to Kirkdale tonight for probable service on the Southport line tomorrow but that has been kyboshed now. :frown:

Any obs of 507001 or 507003 today please?
507001 is on the New Brighton line, working .35 departures from Liverpool Central. Another booked move to Kirkdale didn't happen last night, but surely it will be on the Southport line before long.

Not sure 507003 has returned to service from overhaul yet.

Just out of curiosity, how many diagrams are there on Saturdays please?
Christmas shopping and football matches may well change this, but I think it's currently 18 on a normal Saturday (10 Southport line, 4 New Brighton and 4 West Kirby). I imagine the next couple of Saturdays will see at least some six-car operation on the Southport line as there were reports of passengers unable to board last Saturday.

Hope to spend the afternoon in the Merseyside area today (9th December 2023) - would anybody know if 507001 will be working today and which diagram please?

I've seen a post on a facebook group that 507001 is on New Brighton services today and started on the 0553 departure from New Brighton.

Are there some 508s out today and which services are they running?

6 Car 507/508 working on the Ormskirk line this afternoon. Not too sure whether another 507/508 unit is out on the line. I did spot one class 777 working.

507018 has been in use today for filming purposes between Birkenhead North and Moorfields.

507001 is on the Ellesmere Port line for the second Sunday on the trot and it is clearly in need of a wash. Time to get it over to the Northern Line.

508114 inside the main shed at Birkenhead North this afternoon with a red flashing light attached. Ominous as it is expected to be the next one for scrap alongside 508108. These 508s were both on the Southport line yesterday.

Am I right 120 and 131 are now withdrawn ? This would leave 104 108 114 in service

104 is on 1506 WKI which means it should work every departure at 75 mins intervals there after then 1901 2031 then 2201.
108 114 are at SOP. perhaps for PM Attachments ?
507001 on NBN hourly xx53 to 1853 .
508120 131 are on B Head TMD

508108 and 508114 are on the 17.21 Hunts Cross to Southport. Won't be many more all-508 six-cars to go.

Not surprised some will see the New Year. There simply isn't enough time to remove them all now.

Great news if three 508s can hang on into 2024. It would be very fitting if 508108 was the very last to bow out, with it being the (joint?) first 508 to enter traffic on Merseyside metals. That would more than make up for the BLS not selecting it for October's excellent railtour.

Yes, 508108 and 508109 (as 008 and 009) were the first 508s in traffic but on the Southern on 17/12/79. First working was Waterloo - Shepperton I believe. First 508 in service on Merseyside was 508142 (as 042), later a Silverlink 508 but long scrapped sadly.

Rather glad if 508120 and 131 don't get the honour as both were in fairly poor nick last time I rode them. 508114 is a machine though; a superb unit at the last.

Thanks for the correction, 108 is even more significant in that case!
