Looks like the top wire has snapped completely.
LNER have put out a blanket "do not travel", services cancelled left and right.

Why can't the Azumas use diesel power?
Once again the OLE on this particular stretch of the ECML found to be wanting. When are Network Rail going to sort it out?
Correct, high speed coasting on the Up, normal Working on the down.Lines open. Suspect up line is coasting / diesel only.
That'll be an AWAC problem - specific to Mk3a/Mk3b catenary. The AWAC (Alumo-Weld Aluminium Composite) catenary was one of the driving cost-savers on the Mk3a/Mk3b range (much cheaper than copper), but is very, very susceptible to galvanic corrosion. Mk3c/Mk3d phased it out, but there are still large lengths of AWAC across the network. Is there also an inherent weakness in the ECML's Mk3 cantilevers or something else? From the rain-soaked image they look like the higher speed ones @59CosG95 provided examples of in the MML thread.
