That's rather odd, 002 was only delivered to Oxley recently, and I wouldn't have imagined it would be able to be accepted within such a short timescale.
It won’t be accepted by Avanti, none are yet.
It is still part of Hitachi’s test/mileage accumulation runs.
Bear in mind these go straight from factory to testing on mainline, so that’s no different to it been sent to Oxley and starting testing.

Although why todays run is under an Avanti headcode is anyone’s guess.

Another unit due to move from Merchant Park to Oxley this morning, departing at 11:25. Potentially 805004.
Path from RTT attached:-

805004 is the unit on the move.

Could this be the unit that will come down the North Wales Coast on this path?

Avanti have accepted it, however it is still subject to fault free running which will be done alongside driver training. It's a fairly new method, but Avanti aren't the first to do it like this I believe

That's a rather peculiar method, but it sounds promising. I guess you can do all the checks etc needed for acceptance. Presumably it speeds up the process?

I imagine so, I assume there must be Hitachi representatives on board during the runs.

Ah right fair enough! That sounds different to how previous operators have done it.
All 4 units that have left Aycliffe are covered in stickers which are quality control issues that need fixing. I would of thought Avanti would not accept any unit unless it was fit for traffic to the standard they need.

I would have thought this was maybe still an unaccepted unit, that Hitachi were allowing Avanti drivers use, I didn’t realise that Avanti actually had any drivers that were trained on them.

Most TOCs moved away from it because it always meant trouble - an issue or delay with FFR would impact training or vv. I’m guessing that Avanti have a level of confidence in the 80x as a mature platform rather than a new design that they’ll be able to work round it.

Strange they were not running under a Q headcode as they are not cleared for all routes yet.
A Q code means everyone is more vigilant.

Looks to me that not using Q codes on Monday was a mistake. Yesterday and today they appear to be using Q codes. Given the WTT has B, U and G for the "as required" services, it was probably a mistake of omission (not making a change) rather than anything else

An 805 was also being tested between Rugby and Coventry last night with more runs planned for tonight. Starts and finishes at Oxley

Here is what an 805 might look like when they receive the Avanti livery.

Looks great! The Avanti livery is a great one in my opinion (although I can't name any liveries I don't like :))
It's also nice to have another look at the livery compared to the 1 art of it I've seen (attached for reference)

Surely if DfT’s accountants get a whiff of this …. Those big sticker sections seem awfully expensive, perhaps we can elongate the nice free white sections a bit :)
i just tried to make it resemble how the Avanti livery looks on the 390s

I like it. I wonder if this could a pre production model as Hornsby were going to announce the 805 this year but it got pulled.

Not sure if it is class 805, but there was Crewe South Yard at 06:34 to Holyhead as 3Q70, which seems to return as 3Q71 travelling from Holyhead at 10:59. You then have 3Q74 from Crewe at 15:29 which gets to Holyhead 17:55 then leaves Holyhead at 1804 as 3Q75 and arrives Crewe at 2036. Then as 3Q76 from Crewe 2120 arriving Llandudno Junction at 2238. Then returns as 3Q77 at 2244 arriving Crewe South Yard 0028.

However, details state pathed as class 158/168/170/175.
