Anyone else getting irritated by the volume of basically similar quiz posts (something only a small fraction of users use, but do so heavily) littering the New Posts search?? Quiz posts don't count towards post totals IIRC, is there any way that Station Code, Headcode Game, Guess the Bus Station, Guess the Car, Station Association, What's That Smell etc etc, could be filtered out from these searches?

They have their place but it lowers the quality and approachability of the forums for those who are interested in genuine news and information to do with the railways. I know it's a broad church this, and probably still the best rail forum out there - but I get more frustrated and have not posted so much recently as I feel the quality is slipping.

Anyone else agree?

I agree. I yearn for the days when the Quiz forum used to be full of good quality quizzes that required thought!

I agree.

But aslong as its kept in the quiz or general discussion area it doesn't bother me! Or I just won't bother reading them! :)

Yes they have their place, no problem with that, but I use New Posts a lot to see whats going on without trawling each subforum, so I come across them all day every day!

Believe it or not, I've been thinking the same thing of late - in fact, I've only been partaking in a specific few recently. I am increasingly looking only towards those that genuinely require thought (e.g. I'm thinking of a station) and also those that I have been a part of for a long time, or otherwise that I set up. Most others have effectively fallen off my radar. The quality has definitely been slipping; it's more of a Games Forum now.

What I would say is that the quality overall doesn't get lowered by the run of games, but some people - I confess, myself included - do prioritise them a touch too much. So long as it is only a part of what we do on here, it is fine. I contribute a lot to Fares threads (although with outdated information it isn't as easy as it could be), and also to the non-NR threads; in such an instance, the Quiz Forum provides a nice and (sometimes) challenging alternative. The problems arise when it becomes the be-all-and-end-all of what you do on here.

I use the New Posts button a lot too - and I cannot help but agree that Page 1 is often dominated by the Quiz Forum. If anything, I think I would suggest that a Quiz Forum -specific moderation policy is introduced (@ Mojo etc - hint hint ;)).

I could get in a lot of trouble if the wrong person reads this

Why does it need to be a cause for complaint? It's certainly more fun than bickering about politics or 1001 Things To prolong the Life of Pacers until 2050.

Well all I can say is that you don't need to read the quizzes if you don't want, OK maybe there's 9 or 10 extra entries in the new posts list, but so what?

PS: What's that smell?: sounds like a top idea for a new quiz to me :p

I've no doubt it would succeed!

Each to their own, just would be nice to tailor the new posts searches, not complaining about others enjoying some harmless fun.

I speak as someone who contributes to the Quiz Forum ( in addition to participating on threads in many other forums).... but only on selected quizzes. I do NOT use the "New Posts" function to monitor matters, but access directly the particular quizzes that I wish to participate upon.

I refuse to be drawn into any convoluted and long drawn-out debate into matters on this subject, but I feel that I have a right for my particular point of view to be heard, as my posting total of over 4,000 postings is the number of postings that I have made on this forum since April 2011 that EXCLUDE any postings on the Quiz Forum.

I've just taken a look in the Quiz forum for the first time in ages. I'm glad I left it, most of it seems to be games now, not quizzes.

Everyone has the right to comment regardless of the number of posts they have made.

As long as people do these so called "games" it shouldn't matter.

You don't need to read those "games" in the same way you don't need to complain about them.

Horses for courses and all that..;)

This whole thread is a bit unnecessary. If anyone has any issues with the forum system or needs any help with things like search options, please contact one of the admins.

I thank you! :D
