Take away what that company is related to and it changes everything:

South West
East Midlands
Virgin
British
Thames

I don't rate the new livery that much. The whole brand yes, but the livery, not quite.
While I quite like the angle of the yellow (sort of makes it look a little streamlined?), I am sad they have decided to include the yellow all together.

But then I NEVER liked the "toy town" Stagecoach livery...

The question really is where did that awful picture come from? I don't think I know any smart phone or camera that isn't 10+ years old that is capable of taking such a photo.

The picture originally came from a brochure in the SWR welcome pack to all staff.

I don't mind the new livery, but I don't really like too much white on trains - it gets grubby a lot faster and looks worse because it's so much more obvious. I wonder if they'll have separate liveries for different types of route as SWT did. Guess we'll have to find out!

I hope they do keep a different livery approach like SWT did. I also don't like the new train in the photo looks, this (taken from Eagle Radio) looks nicer, though hope the boards expand from SWR to South Western Railway at some point!

My guess is that the SWR name is too long for the PIS systems to display (especially on the portrait mode displays), and thus is abbreviated. The same happens with GWR as well as Virgin Trains East Coast (printed as 'Virgin Trains EC').

regarding GWR At Southern operated stations the PIS doesn't announce the 'GWR' at all merely as 'service'

I reckon so, because when GA was AGA it was written:
AbellioGreaterAnglia
and it took up all the space so they couldn't put spaces in.

Do we know anything about the 450/444 refreshes at this time? Having been on a couple of 345's recently I've loved the less harsh lighting package they have and was wondering if lighting would be considered on any refresh of the Desiros?

Do you know if the 444 is getting a repaint or vinyl? If the former I'd be interested to know if this is getting done down in Bournemouth as when I spent some time with SWT a couple of years ago they were bidding for the work after completing the 455s.

The 444 can be seen through the windows at Northam depot if there's nothing on the reception line. It appears done now from quick glimpses I've seen. I believe it is a blue base coat (same colour as the sole bar) and white vinyl.

Is it the same livery as the picture from that welcome pack? If it's not, could SWR be going to introduce a 3rd livery for their metro "ex red" routes or will they still with the 2 liveries?

It appears similar to the welcome pack, but look more vivid in real life compared to the welcome pack (possibly the paper in the welcome pack didn't do the colours justice).

I'm under the impression it'll be 1 paint job on all stock.

Is 444040 the unit which is named "South Western Railway"?

It would be a shame if not as that would be a missed opportunity!

Anyone know if this is an actual repaint (aside from the inevitable vinyl details) and if so where they're being resprayed?

Cheers.

Agreed, a missed trick by not using 444038

A clever move using platform 21, as it allows the media event to go on without affecting the rest of the station. I can't wait to see pictures of what the new colours will look like.

Living just outside Winchester, I have seen the rebranded 444 within the last hour and it looks just as good as I thought it would - so much more on-trend with contemporary graphic design, it certainly makes the old SWT branding look very dated indeed!

Any pictures available? I'm going to reserve judgement until I see it, if "contemporary design" means anything like the jaundiced tellytubby livery proposed for the West Midlands franchise.

They are in the parallel thread about SWR train livery:

http://www.railforums.co.uk/showthread.php?t=152252&page=5

I thought it was a bit unnecessary to have two separate threads, but what do I know...

There are other discussions and pics in the general discussions SWR franchise thread as well now, as you'd also expect:

I've placed a still image photo plus a link to a video of this train in the photography board.

Simon

You always manage to produce simple and effective videos without resorting to lots of whistles and bells- well played!

It appears that the background silver has a diagonal lines effect with sections of either darker or matt-finish, rather than a solid "fill" of uniform silver. Is that the case or are my eyes deceiving me?

If so, I can't decide whether it's a good or a bad thing!

I like this livery, but it would look better if the dark gray also formed a window band to hide the uneven window spacing on the 444s...

Personal taste is very highly subjective! :D
