Hi Saffa -- what does the email say please? Does it say that you will be invited to an assessment?

I am pleased to confirm that your application for the position of Trainee Driver Pool - Dartford has successfully passed the screening process.

I would like to take this opportunity to thank you again for your interest in joining Southeastern, and we will contact you as soon as we are able to continue with your application.

Kind Regards

Thanks Saffa. A word of advice mate, I hope you're not using your real first name.

I received the email as well. I was wondering whether we had to specify the depot we were applying for, as my email didn't mention any depot, it was generic. Not complaining, of course.

I Don't think so, It did say that please select the most suitable location, based on where I live, Grove Park was closest to me so I chose that, But I think it all depends on where they require more drivers.

There's no depot at Bromley.

Yeah I’m thinking to hmmm , Orpington is not far from Aswell and I’ve been in that pool since July I have a feeling soon they’ll process the application further

There is a lot of uncertainty about the future SE work at Orpington as half the jobs are Thameslink ones. Now there's a Thameslink depot next door its presumed that all of Orpington SE depot's GTR work will eventually migrate there, leaving half the drivers at Orpington SE with nothing to do. Of course, Orpington lost a lot of SE work to other SE depots in order to facilitate covering the Thameslink duties so there's plenty that can come back - but it would mean the other SE depots losing the work they previously gained. Interesting times ahead as the franchise changes.

Thanks for the info , I’ll
Wait and see no in a rush I work for GTR st the moment so if anything comes up
I can go for it Aswell internally but I’d rather SE because it’s local

Congrats. Vic probably has the best chance at early recruitment too.

Do you know what routes are signed out of Victoria by any chance - I've seen a thread about it from last year that mentions Metro routes for new drivers, and I'm wondering if its still the same?

Vic is changing quite dramatically in terms of routes. New diagrams are out in a couple of weeks. They are moving towards being a metro only depot. As bionic said, interesting times ahead.

Thanks for the info - and it does sound like interesting times ahead, what with the winning franchise bidder due to be announced any time soon. Allegedly!

Metro routes:

Vic - Orpington via Herne Hill and Catford
Vic - Gravesend via Bexleyheath, Woolwich Arsenal and Sidcup
Blackfriars - Herne Hill / Denmark Hill
Cannon Street
Charing Cross
Hayes
Sevenoaks
....and all points in between

Vic shed
Slade Green depot
Grove Park depot
Orpington sidings
Plumstead sidings
Dartford sidings
Bellingham sidings

Vic currently still have work to places like Faversham, Canterbury, Ashford etc but for how long nobody knows.

Traction is 465, 466, 375, 376.

It's no longer classed as a non-residential depot so start learning those night bus timetables!

That's great - thank you.

So are you saying it's now a residential depot - what does that mean exactly?

I don't suppose you know latest finish and earliest start times so I can work out when the Gatwick Express wouldn't be of any use!

Basically they used to have reasonable start and finish times so people who didn't live in inner London could get in and out by train, and they used to put taxis on if jobs started or finished outside these times. A few years ago they stopped the taxis and started pulling people in for pre 0500 starts and post 0100 finishes they had no means of getting in and out for as many lived further out than the night buses went. Quite a few Vic drivers transferred out to other depots and TOCs as a result. Then they brought in all the metro work so it's a very different depot to what it was a few years back.

Ah right. That makes sense now

It's also part of the reason why you need to live within a certain distance from the depot. Fatigue is now the main priority. You need to be able to get yourself into work and it is fully your responsibility. You can't blame the train/bus being late. Imagine being stranded at Victoria when you live in Ramsgate. You wouldn't be able to get home.

Non residential used to have no real requirement about traveling times as you always started after the first train has arrived and finished before it left. The TOC had a responsibility to get you into work and there were staff trains that run up the line and stopped on the way specifically to collect staff.
