Looks like cut up so far are...202/203/204/207/209/210/214/216/219/220.

Possibly one coach each left of 216 and 204.

Still on view yesterday were...201/205/206/208/217 and some individual coaches in the cutting area. One other complete unit in the line of three that has blue 201 at the far end.

The prompt disposal of PEPs, is a far cry from what I saw in pre-privatisation years. -

May 1986, I visited Crewe Works, primarily to photograph the withdrawn 40s. Also in Crewe disposal lines, I photographed 81001 (withdrawn in July 1984), split-box 45053 (November 1983) and, longest of all, 84008 (October 1979!).

A less official trip into MC Metals, in 1991, surfaced some gems such as the "Mexican Bean" 104 DMU and a former Gresley BTK.

I have just posted an update from the fence in Campbell Road, Eastleigh.
From my observations 313213 was cut this week, coach 62605 succumbed today. 313217 is indeed next in line. 313 205 is visible with 208 and the coach from 216 in and around the prep area. The only other units I can see in the holding sidings would be 206, 212 and 201 on one track and 215 on its own next to them. So unless there are some hidden away, their demise continues with 7 complete units and a coach from 216 remaining. One coach per day Mon to Thurs seems to be the plan.

Thanks for the update

Does anyone know if 211 is still whole or not and if not when it got chopped?

Chopped I believe. Last time I saw it was 29th Aug and it was next in line for the scrap. Unit 213 was behind it in line and that was chopped this week so I cant see it would have escaped or been let off for good behaviour.

Following on from Camerar1's report, 313217 is being cut up this week and only coach 62609 remains. A little shunting at Eastleigh today has now put 313205 on the death row line and it was being separated late this afternoon but wont probably have a date with the grim reaper until next week.

Confirming Graham H's report, a couple of updated photos from Campbell Road Fence. 313205 in the siding of doom, and 313206 now partially anonymised, and apparently next in line. No other apparent movements.

A further update, as of lunchtime Tuesday.

Two coaches of 313205 hdisposed of in the week so far, leaving DMS 62533 of 313205 to be next. This then being followed by BDMS 62608 (held over from 313216). 313208 now in preparation for disposal, expected to be after 313206.

Have never been a fan of 313s but huge credit is due to all of the engineers, refurbers etc etc to get those trains from the NLL when they were already creaking and hanging out of their backsides to get them spruced up and squeezed another few years of service out of them. Also, what a great retirement for them too, running up and down the Coastway.

Nothing but twisted metal in the scrapping area last night. 313208 now lined up on death row presumably to be dealt with next week. 313206 would be next and 313215 has been moved round to the prepping area by the small shunter shed. I believe that just leaves 212 to be moved round and then they will be history apart from 201 of course.

On Sat 23rd
208, 206, and 215 were uncut.
216 was in bits when we walked past it
Where did you see 216 as personal observation and as reported in RM two coaches were cut up at the end of July. The third coach (62608) had been subject of a bid to preserve a cab but this was in the end abortive and passed through the scrap process mid September.

Was told by the guys doing the tour
OK, that makes sense and I suppose if 208 was still whole then what was in the scrap area would be the remains of the held back coach 62608 from unit 216 which was broken up on the 21st then although the rest of the unit went weeks ago. The unit scrapped prior to this coach was 205 so a scattering of bits from that would be there as well but probably not recognisable !

Update from the bridge Sunday 1st Oct. Probably not many more updates. 313206 is partially scrapped. Coach 62534 has gone, the other two await their fate this week. 313215 is next and alongside that is 313212 awaiting a decision on its future. Yard looks a bit empty now.

Slight tangent but I was wondering why the 313 horns have a very low tech mod that seems to be an old dish cloth tied on with wire. 314 and 315 images seem to have the same mod. All I can think of is that it alters the tone or decibel level or less plausibly as the cloth is white, at least initially, makes them more visible

"Snow socks" are fitted to prevent snow or other items getting into the exposed horns and causing failures, which is what they look like. They used to be fitted in late autumn and removed in spring if they hadn't rotten away by then. Why Southern had them all the time don't know.

This is why you fit them;

"Train driver uses hot water to clear horn blocked by snow - The makers of LNER’s new fleet of Azuma trains admitted today their horns could be blocked by a “very heavy snowfall”."
