Recently we discussed the MAN 18.220s, four of them that came from Bluebird to Fife, in relation to the Olympics. These vehicles were surplus with the introduction of the new E350Hs to Aberdeen for route 59. Mbonwick said they were on loan. I can confirm they are actually permanent transfers to Fife, and won't return north. These vehicles were originally with Fife when new in 1999, at Cowdenbeath.

They were on loan at the time...whether they've now become permanant is a whole different matter.

Nice bit of swapping routes between licenses there, something to do with the new vehicles for 96 isn't it?

How about the rest? Plus ALL Express services bar X59 are changing: I believe the word best used here is "CUTS", maybe not big cuts but I dare say enought to save a few buses and withdraw a few empty runs.

Also X37, x40 changes are very minor with just 1750 Kirk - Glenrothes now stop at Glenrothes instead of Collydean. X59, 17.15 will stop at Glenrothes instead of St Andrews.

The reason for the changes in registration for the 42 and 96, which are transfering to strathtay entirely, stem from st. Andrews. The 99 group is being increased to every 10 minutes uring the day (currently every 15 minutes) with some changes to the town sections. That explains 12 Scanias arriving to replace 7 MAN's. The depot site at St. Andrews also houses the bus station (which is also owned by Stagecoach), and the compact site means that it's a struggle to house over 30 buses in it.

Until the site was rebuilt a few years ago, the stances were lanes (now saw tooth) and it was commonplace for buses to be left in the stances at night. The site is still a bit cramped yet, having seen it myself on a Sunday.

So, to relieve the pressure on St Andrews, when the 99 group goes to a 10 minute frequency, the 42 and 96 are transfering to Dundee depot, which has more space. That might also be a clue as to where some of the ousted MAN's of 2006 vintage may end up as well.

I'd be very interested in what the "town" service patterns are for the 99s will be, if/when someone knows - having grown up in the town.

I would be really surprised if its every 10mins, It never seems to be that busy, I get the feeling it may will end up with a 20mins service althought it would be better if there had a single route and not this 4 different way around the town.

There's only 11 Scanias on order as I keep saying....

Anyway, that aside, I have a question.
How many seats do the B13R/Elites have? BLOTW says C65FLt, Plaxton brochure says C55FLt maximum, so which is right please?

The MAN 18.220s are officially reserve vehicles at the moment, although 22261 is being used at Aberhill, mainly for schools. I can't imagine it will be joining the fleet or else it would've had the Aberdeen branding removed and been given a repaint.

All of the 06 plate MANs have had branding removed and repainted (except 22407).

I have also heard that Fife will be receiving no new coaches in the next year for the express routes. This will most likely scupper the plans to move 53304 and 53305 to St.Andrews to replace 52420 and 52481.

I would think its a bit early to be saying what depots are getting on the next order.

Equally, don't forget that there is also the potential for cascades in from other regions.

Couple of fleet changes of note. 22261 is being repainted at Aberhill. Main reason is that it'll be going to Dunfermline to replace another MAN, an ex Manchester example whose engine has failed. 22263, which was minus an engine and gearbox has left Aberhill, presumably for scrapping.

Also, Newburgh outstation has a rquirement for four double deckers, as opposed to three previously. We think this has come about because of the extra schools work Perth depot has, in that a schools duty from Cupar to Newburgh was worked by a Perth vehicle on route 35, but has now been handed over to Newburgh. However, no one in the DABF is sure of exactly what's moved!

I saw 22263 being towed away, it had languished in Aberhill depot for many months. It still had a destination showing "95 Leven"!

There seems to be a lot of problems with these old MANs. Glasgow use S and T reg ones on their X19 route and they seem to be frequently off the road as I regularly see B7s covering this route.

22266 (a re-engined example) has been withdrawn from the St.Andrews fleet.

Just of late there has been some problems with the 1999 MAN's that Fife got. Some of them are now at North West, notably Preston. The 2005 and 2006 batches seem to fare better.

The mystery over the extra allocation to Newburgh has been solved. When perth gained extra P&K school contracts, Fife lost a contract to Kinross High School, the 202, to Hamish Gordon of Leslie. One of the existing duties at Perth was an Abernethy to Perth school run. Abernethy is west of Newburgh. So, to balance things out, and to keep jobs, the Abernethy - Perth High School run has moved to Newburgh outstation. The allocation at Glenrothes, as a result, stays the same.

I'm also told that a part time driver from Glenrothes depot stays in Newburgh, so it's actually worked out quite well.

What a shame 22154 gone, it was one of the better buses, IF that one gone, I have to dread what the rest are like? Others really are crap! along with some of the other Alx200.

I take it he uses different buses from the morning and night to allow swaps to take place to get them cleaned etc down in Glenrothes.

Yeah. When it was just a 3 bus operation at Newburgh, all 3 visited Glenrothes depot during the day to be cleaned and changed over. With it being 4, and one of those going into Perth on a schools run, what I think now happens is that the PHS bus one day would operate a 36 working the next day, to allow it to reach Glenrothes.

Unlike some firms, such as First Eastern counties, Stagecoach east Scotland doesn't always outstation the same bus in the same place every night. What I can tell you is that the four buses at Newburgh will be low floor, as Glenrothes no longer has any step entrance double deckers.

Nothing to say that 22154 won't just be off for a simple engine change and back into service somewhere.....just not necessarily East Scotland if its not needed....

Details about the changes have started to appear:

* 8: One morning bus re-timed: 07.55 Kirk - Leven

* 57 ALL off peak buses withdrawn Expect 09.07 Kirk - Ferrytoll, X57 still operate from 15.35 - 17.35

Plus the No20 that 3 buses cut from off peak and Saturday duties, being honest 57 was empty most of the time and most passengers can use the No7 or 87 instead. at least people from fife coast still have one off peak journey each day.

More changes are still due for Amazon.
--- old post above --- --- new post below ---
So:

* Whats happening to the X26,X27?
* How is the 747 changing? could it at long last get cut back for the winter period until March.

A whole burst of roadworks are going to affect services in Fife over the next few weeks.

Works this weekend and next on the M9 link to the A90 mean that buses heading into Edinburgh will be subject to delay. Closure of a road from St Michaels to Tayport, and the closure of another road in Tayport will cause the 42 to not serve tayport, and the 96 to only serve part of it. Roadworks near Balmullo will also result in routes 42 and 94 being affected.

Wilson Avenue and Adamson Avenue in Kirkcaldy are closed this week for resurfacing. The upshot of that is that buses serving there are diverted along hayfield Road instead.

The Chapel Level is clsoed this weekend while the new roundabout at Rosemount Avenue is installed. As a result, buses to Kirkcaldy are diverted along Rosemount Avenue, buses to Dunfermline via Templehall, with route K4 diverted and delayed.

Furthermore, the Chapel Level was closed westbound tonight unscheduled, though that doesn't affect bus services tonight, as none run along there in the evenings.

And planned works are due to take place soon to a gas main on Station Road, Cardenden.

Talk is still some will be heading for Cumbernauld services....

Noticed last night an E300 on an X24. The move to the Cumbernauld services would fuel rumours again of stagecoach buying first's Cumbernauld depot. However, it must be pointed out Stagecoach already runs the X25 from Abronhil lto Glasgow via Cumbernauld new town, so these will probably update the existing vehicles.

Although denied by East Scotland, I wouldn't bet against the two B10M-62s at St. Andrews being ousted.
