Does anyone know what the current situation is with the Prince of Wales pub adjoining Foxfield station on the Cumbrian Coast line? Google has it down as "temporarily closed" but if so, anyone have any ideas how long for?

Seemingly sold in 2023. The new owners are keen to reopen it as a pub. However, due to the scale of work involved it may take some time. The local council has granted asset of community value status.

Has anyone ever tried the little Platform 1 bar at Ely station?
Drinking at other riverside establishments in beautiful Ely on Saturday and the plan was to finish up in the Platform 1 bar but although it is a really early opener it unfortunately closes at 20:00.

Bought by the local publishing company. However they also bought the pub in nearby Broughton in Furness and it needed less work to get it up and running again. So that has taken priority I believe.

Travelling past it, the building work looks complete, however the building seems to be empty.

I always check t'interweb when travelling past to see if any progress has been made.

Both Young's and Fullers sold off their breweries and are now high-end (read expensive) pub operators, mainly in "premium locations".
Fuller's are very much still brewing. I look forward each year to the release of their Vintage Ale.

The brewery is still operating, but it isn't owned by Fuller's any more. IIRC it's now owned and run by Asahi, a Japanese multi-national.

They are, but not under the original ownership. The company sold the brewing arm to Asahi in 2019.

Fuller's brewery still exists l am pleased to say. However it is now owned by Asahi, a Japanese brewer.

The original company is now solely a pub/hotel owner.

They made the shell waterproof over the winter. There's nowt inside.
Brief summary... So the folks who ran it 1996 to 2020 wanted to retire. Someone bought it. Took all the fixtures out and then supposedly ran out of cash. It was looking very sorry for itself for a while. Then the local publishing company owner stepped in and bought it. Last suggestion was re-opening 3 years down the line.

Yes, it was wrapped up like the Reichstag for a while.

I'm glad someone bought it, hopefully with the intention of re-opening. I can't help feeling that it needed a CIG style facelift rather than the full CEP style refurb.

I think most people's wish was that it transferred seamlessly from one owner to the next. And the customer base wouldn't dwindle away. Unfortunately the initial buyer had other ideas.

Wow! Avanti have submitted a planning application to refurbish the pub at Crewe!!! I hope it’s as good as the Lancaster pub. That’s is my favourite pub and my favourite station with my favourite staff.

I can’t wait to visit Crewe now!

It's overdue, however the Tite & Locke is a Lancaster Brewery establishment, so unless Avanti contract it out to them, it may not be.

Crewe is one of my least favourite stations with my least favourite staff who, on occasions, I have found rather passenger hostile.

In the olden days (1980s), you could get a decent pint of Robinsons on P6 but it went keg many moons ago, And I don't care much for any of the pubs on Nantwich Road. Some sometimes sell real ale but its seldom all that exciting.

Both Didcot Parkway (The Prince of Wales) and Swindon (The Great Western and The Queens Tap) have acceptable pubs opposite them to wait for your train, all 3 with Real Ale.

I was there this evening at 7pm with a bit of time before my train, but the lines were all being cleaned!

Lytham, Lancashire (LTM) on the South Fylde line has the Station Pub & Grill in the old station building.

Walked in the Crewe Hero pub at about one minute past eight last Saturday evening, to be met with "we're closed" from a rather surley barmaid. After some grovelling she agreed to serve us (in plastic 'glasses'), but we couldn't sit in the pub part, so we moved to the café end.

Enough to put you off Crewe station for life!

The same poorly treated minimum wage SSP staff who work in all their outlets, not inviting but it's not hard to understand why!

Very true, but I've never understood why Crewe bar shuts so early, particularly on a Saturday when all the footie fans are changing trains.

I might be wrong but I seem to recall it was always a feature of the SSP "Hero" bars with the odd exception - I know the one in Derby was similar before it was removed (which basically entailed taking away the booze, it always shared the unit with an Upper Crust). There was never any real point to the Derby one though with numerous good pubs in the area surrounding the station - certainly not the case in Crewe!

Very much off topic, but the Brunny (Brunswick) close to Derby station is very much on my 'favourites' list. 8-)

The King's Head & Head of Steam at Huddersfield and the Sheffield Tap have been mentioned but I don't see any mention of the scenic Community Rail line that connects the two, the Penistone Line. Of it's 15 intermediate stations, two have pubs adjoining the platforms and all the rest have a pub a short walk from the station, as the attached list.
Someone produced a website https://micropubadventures.co.uk/2023/05/28/28-05-23-penistone-line-ale-trail/ for half the line last year but it's already out of date.

Stalybridge is my all time favourite station pub.
When aslef went on strike in 1982 the landlady barred all aslef members from there. Fast forward a few years, a driver that has since retired went in for a pint. The place was packed as a wake was taking place. The bloke behind the bar served him no problem. The driver responded “thanks mate, that old hag that used to run the place wouldn’t serve us” the bloke responded “yeah that would be my mum, this is her wake” talk about putting your foot in it :D
