Have to say it looks good in the livery imo.

Thank you so much. I'm getting 380 vibes from the front, honestly. I know it hasn't physically been changed, but the way it's been painted does it.

Does it say 4580xx on the front or 4584xx? I know they're being referred to as the latter, but that doesn't always hold much weight; 153/9 for example was referred to as 153/0 originally.

Haha thought it looked like the 380 but was wondering if it was only me

OT, but the Class 317s [as built] were worst for this. They were all numbered in the 3173xx range!

Not keen on the the full yellow gangway ends otherwise it looks great. The ends should be half yellow with the black above like 444/450.

It may perhaps be the intention for the 458s to have the full yellow ends to set these apart from the 450s due to their similiar looks?

I also agree about the 380-like appearance, looks like a cross between 380 and 450.

And 158 is confusing as 1587xx and 8xx is /0, though the 1589xx is indeed /9.

In fairness I believe this was to preserve a number range unique to each vehicle in the sprinter family, ie:
150/1 = 52/571xx
150/2 = 52/572xx
155 = 52/573xx (obviously 153s confused this somewhat)
156 = 52/574xx (and a handful of 52/575xx)
158 = 52/577xx (or 52/578xx, with the 158/9 completing the family with 52/579xx)

Very very off topic but just thought I'd explain the method in the madness.

Tenuous (on topic) link:
Doesn't that 458/4 (:lol:) look pretty!

Just out of curiosity, can a 458/4 run in multiple with a 450? Edit: I'm guessing not seeing as two different companies, but as a way to move a failed unit for example.

They can’t run in multi, but the 458s can (now) couple to a Desiro mechanically to clear the line.

The only thing that really lets the 458 down compared to a 450 is the windows are a crap and the lack of carpet. Psychologically I'm more willing to sit on a 450 floor when packed than a 458 (despite I'm sure a similar level of filth!)

Presume the 458 refurb includes: new carpet and seat covers, improved toilets and windows, to match 444 standards (just 1st class will have new seats)?.
Any rough dates for a redone 458 to hit the SWR network?
Although the running gear has not changed much (other than the gearing), it may have updated control and customer route display software, so guess the refurb'ed 458 12 car will be tested on a test track at Widnes before the Waterloo - Portsmouth main line?.
Should not have the issues the 442s had, but there may be other unknown issues that may be found under testing?

No. I’ve posted a picture of the new seats twice - although this is a 51 page thread so of course I don’t blame you for not having seen! - which unfortunately I don’t have any longer to upload here again, but if you type in “New seat” by “TT-ONR-NRN” in the search function you may discover the image! :)

Thanks, Did a search and found them in post #1,055 5 Dec 2022, so internally the refurbished 458s should look a bit like a refurbished 444 with 2 x 2 seating in both first and standard class?
