What do you think about the 24 becoming an all-stops service ?

Do you remember, as I do, the number 90 express double-decker rear-entry bus service from Stevenson Square to Rochdale running in that iconic blue and white livery ?

--- old post above --- --- new post below ---

While we are on the subject of the Newhey area, has there ever been a bus service that ran north-westerly from Peppermint Bridge to the Denshaw area from, similar to the 900/901 services that run northwards from Cragg Vale past the resevoir en route to Huddersfield.

I think the 24 has been all stops before before reverting to limited stop again. I don't think it makes that much difference as it stops at a lot of stops anyway and the 409 gets most of the business between Rochdale and Royton. The former 23 express was a more genuine limited stop service.

I'm too young to remember rear entry buses.

For a while in the last decade, there was a bus from Rochdale to Denshaw, on Wednesdays and Saturdays I think, thanks to Rural Bus Challenge money. In the 80s there was a summer Sunday service from Bury and Rochdale to Saddleworth.

That seems a shame - though it's many years since I used it (1992). It used to be a lot more useful - as an hourly service it only tends to be useful if you're planning in advance when to travel (and perhaps have connections that work with it). I spent a summer working in Chadderton, travelling from Ripponden every day.

Most days I caught the 562 to Oldham and then one of the many buses to Chadderton from there, catching the 562 or once-a-day 556 back again.

Some days I got the 528 to Rochdale and then the 24. The 23 was no good as it was a bit too direct for me!

Had a 16-19 GM bus pass and a Student Metrocard for that summer (which gives away my age somewhat).

There was a bus to somewhere in that area in the early 90s from Huddersfield. I came across a timetable for it a couple of months ago - I'll see if I can still find it.

Incidentally, as part of the current consultation on Hebden Bridge local services it is proposed for the 3 Sunday trips on the 900 to run all year round (and to have short runs on the 901 replacing the current Hebden Bridge - Cragg Vale "C" service evenings and boosting frequencies on Sunday daytimes).

In the latest TfGM timetable updates, I note the 28/28A timetable from Leigh to Warrington shows that the Monday to Friday Leigh to Warrington services after the 0944 service and prior to the 1518 service are cut back to start from Culceth Library. Similar time-period amendments are made in the other direction.

Incidentally, I note the latest Rossendale Transport timetables that cover their TfGM area operations have been reduced in size, with the "Rosso" brand shown on them.

The part-route service 19A from Altrincham to Sale will be withdrawn by Arriva North West on 27th October.

Good. It's a complete waste of space. On a Monday to Friday from Altrincham Int - Sale there is
2x ARR 016 Altrincham - Ashton upon Mersey - Sale - Chorlton - Manchr Picc
4x ARR 019 Altrincham - Ashton upon Mersey - Sale - Wythenshawe - Airport
4x FIN 019 Altrincham - Ashton upon Mersey - Sale - Helsby Road
4x ARR 19A Altrincham - Ashton upon Mersey - Sale
2x STG 041 Altrincham - Brooklands - Sale - Northenden - Manchr Picc
2x ARR 245 Altrincham - Brooklands - Sale - Urmston - Trafford Ctr - Exchange Quay
6x ARR 263 Altrincham - Brooklands - Sale - Stretford - Old Trafford - Manchr Picc
1x GOG 266 Altrincham - Timperley - Brooklands - Sale
1x GOG 267 Altrincham - Broomwood - Brooklands - Sale
10x METRLK Altrincham - Sale - Manchester - (Bury)

I'm deliberately ignoring route 18, which goes on a grand tour via the Airport and Wythenshawe to Sale

If anyone cares, there was an article on the Leigh-Salford-Manchester Busway in a recent LTT. The service specification will be at least 8 buses per hour in each direction (4 Leigh-Manchester and 4 Atherton-Manchester).

Though now dormant due to lack of postings, there is still a "current" thread on the Leigh Guided Busway somewhere on this website.

Before anyone asks, such is my present state of health and mental cognisance after my recent medical relapse, I am unable to show the link to this thread.

GHA Coaches are withdrawing the 130 Sunday and Bank Holiday service from 19th January. D&G Bus will be taking it over, so they will be going very close to their sister company's, South Lancs Travel, operating area.

GHA have changed theirs minds and will be continuing to run the route commercially.

Yep I posted that in the Cheshire East bus news thread but not this one. It sounds like GHA have done the same as with the 27 route, the route was put out to tender, GHA bid but didn't win the tender so GHA register a reduced service commercially. The new timetable for 130 seems to be top secret at present.

The TfGM website shows a very large number of timetables of services run by both First Manchester and Rosso will be updated on or around 26th January 2014.

The Manchester Metrolink line that will be operation through the Oldham town centre on Monday, 27th January 2014, sees the end of the service 400 Oldham Metroshuttle bus, as was expected.

Hadn't seen about the Metroshuttle - I was transported back to the days of the the Trans-Lancs Express by your sentence there...

Rochdale gets free town centre bus on trial basis, funded by Rochdale Council (from TfGM):

A free town centre bus which aims to make it easier for visitors to get around the rapidly changing Rochdale town centre will be taking to the road on 3 February.

The bus will take visitors on a circular route which will start at the bus station and pass South Parade, Newgate, St Mary’s Gate and Hunter’s Lane before returning to the bus station.

Shoppers can be dropped off at the bus stop on Newgate on request for access to the Post Office, Rochdale market and the Exchange Shopping Centre.

Two temporary stops will also be erected on Hunter’s Lane. The first will provide access to the Baum and the Pioneers’ museum as well as shops in the middle of Yorkshire Street such as M&S. The second temporary stop will be further up Hunter’s Lane providing easy access to the shops on Cheetham Street and the top end of Yorkshire Street.

The free bus will leave stand c at the bus station every 20 minutes between 8.05am and 5.05pm from Monday to Saturday.

Passing by Stagecoach's Hyde Road depot on the train the other day showed me a load of Enviro 400 hybrids with '50' route branding - it looks as if the 50's the next route to go hybrid. Are Stagecoach Manchester aiming for eventual total hybrid running?

Also, this morning I saw a weird metallic beige unliveried Enviro 400H with a different interiour to normal (green seats, grey panelling) that had a Stagecoach address on it. It said 'Oldham Academy North' on the blinds, and it was in Piccadilly Gardens, does anyone happen to know what it might have been?

They've been appearing on the 50s this week, I saw one yesterday.

The silver vehicle is an ADL demonstrator, it's been round a week or so and has been all over! It was on Metrolink replacement last weekend.

Normally being used to the A5 size Arriva timetables for the 130 Macclesfield to Manchester service, when I was visiting Macclesfield Hospital this week, there were quite a number of a very small multi-fold new 130 timetables in the foyer, that were published by Cheshire East Council that included the new Sunday GHA Coaches service that came into force earlier in the year.

I believe that TfGM has a supply of these service 130 mini-timetables in their Piccadilly information office (in their timetable area there) that is next to the Manchester Metrolink Piccadilly Gardens tram stop.

It looks like the Manchester services currently operated by Finglands transferred to First Manchester as of yesterday. (Finglands have been purchased by First Group)

The Finglands buses now have windscreen stickers to that effect and sell First tickets which might be useful and economical for travellers between north and south Manchester.

I noticed that, and another sticker showing "On hire/loan to First Manchester LTD"
