I can vouch for the Stagecoach X2 service from Preston to Liverpool via Southport.

It takes about 3 hours. I'm sure it used to come from Longridge as the X1.

The 61 from Preston to Blackpool via St Annes is also a contender that takes around 2.5 hours.

The X2 from Preston to Liverpool via Southport takes around 3 hours. At one time it originated from Longridge as the X1 and changed to the X2 at Preston.

Other contenders:

61 Preston to Blackpool via St Anne's which takes 2.5 hours also the 40/41 from Preston to Lancaster/Morcambe which takes about 3 hours also.

Apologies for the double posting Tapatalk is playing up.

Is Scottish CityLink's Glasgow to Campbelltown & Oban services classed as Coach Services, even though they aren't operated with Buses, they stop at Bus Stops?

I would think Manchester to Nelson is about 30 miles, not 56. If it was 56 miles the average speed would have to be over 30 mph for a journey time of 1 hour 45 minutes, which is clearly not possible given the nature of the route.

Yes Google actually says it's 56 minutes and just over 30 miles. I don't think Google realises how long it takes to get between Chorlton Street and Prestwich!

I am surprised for operational reasons the Manchester to Nelson service doesn't use Shudhill & not Chorlton Street?

I imagine it's for better connections with the National Express services and Piccadilly train services. The service does stops between Chorlton Street and Prestwich passengers don't have to board and alight at Chorlton Street if they want central Manchester.

I wish it did use Shudehill. Chorlton Street is a pain to get to if you're bogged down with cases and you've come in on Megabus and your onward link goes from Chorlton Street not an easy to get to if you have to walk and there's no bus that links the two stations.

If you arrived at Shudehill and wanted the Transdev services which start from Chorlton Street you'd surly use stop NL on Victoria Street or stop NA/NB on Deansgate opposed to walking all the way to Chorlton Street.

The counter argument to starting/terminating services at Shudehill would obviously be the National Express users would be in the situation you describe and NX operate a lot more coaches to Chorlton Street than Megabus operate to Shudehill.

Vehicles run dead mileage from Preston to Liverpool for the first couple of journeys as well, which brings the other question to, which route has the longest dead mileage to/from the depot?

The problem is we arrive at about 3.15pm just in the rush hour and trying to get a seat. I normally board the bus at Chorlton Street and by the time it gets to Deansgate the bus is full and standing.

You could use the Metrolink from Shudhill to Piccadilly Gardens then a short walk to Chorlton Street

Are these former routes and times? As current services have different times to the ones posted here.

The 2X/X2 takes around 2h - 2h 20m (give or take a few mins) depeding on time of day.

The 68 Preston - Blackpool goes via Lytham and St Annes taking no more then 1h 30m. The 61 is more direct via Kirkham & Wesham taking no more then 1h 10m.

The 40/41 is around 1h 50m.

555 is around 3 hours from Keswick - Lancaster, so a round trip is nearly 6 hours!

Thought about Blackpool to Newcastle, but wasn't sure it is classed as a Bus service.

Is the Bluebird 305 operated by coaches? Over 5 hours end to end. Aberdeen-Macduff-Banff-Fochabers-Elgin-Nairn-Inverness.

Surely the TransPeak is the longest? It's not operated by Coaches anymore either, it's run by Excels with Paladins filling in when there's too few available.

Yes, they are coaches rather than buses, same with the 10.

They normally leave a couple stances up from where I get my bus home.

And so it turns up for the 4th time from someone else who can't be bothered to actually read the thread.

TransPeak is only 74 miles in length & takes 3hrs 35min, & if you bothered reading the thread. the are are routes that are longer than that.

Ok then, this now tends to be run with an 05 reg omnicity

It runs during the summer weekends and school holidays

X61 - Durham - Darlington - Stockton - Middlesbrough - Whitby - Scarborough
via Ferryhill & Newton Aycliffe
journey takes 3 hrs but limited stop!!!!

even the 93 tend to be the omnicities rather than the coaches nowadays, with some branded for either the 93 or on the 5/5A/X5 which operates along the coast road!!!!!

Trent Barton's Trans Peak is in with a shout aswell.

Running from Nottingham to Manchester. Via Derby and the peak district - Bakewell, Buxton, Matlock and so on.

It uses Optare Excells, but most of the time its either a Trent Barton liveried red Scania or a Uni Bus liveried Paliden. Because the Optares are in the garage being repaired

Nottingham to Manchester on a Paliden? I'd rather not!

The TransPeak runs every hour as far as Buxton. The full Manchester run goes every couple of hours I think.

The service did use to use Volvo/Plaxton coaches but they were withdrawn because they had a tendancy to well, break - On several of the vehcles a supporting girder on the underside did quite literaly break in two.

Are you having a laugh?

It's been brought up 5 times in a 6 page thread - the last time the post 2 before yours!
