Some of you may be interested:

There will be an event at London Euston at Platform 18 on Wednesday 7th December. Virgin's major shareholders and stakeholders will be there - Richard Branson and Brian Souter are due to make appearances. The Executive team will also be there. The event lasts from 10am till 4pm, and is totally free.

There will be free air hockey, Arcade games, Wii and other games to play. Hot food and refreshments will be provided.

Won't cost you a penny... ;)

This sounds fun; very convenient as I work on Euston Road so will be sure to pop along.
Am I the only member who likes Virgin?!

Brian Souter are due to make appearances.

I may go. For I have two questions for Mr Souter:

  • Was your funding of the private postal vote in Scotland to keep section 28 money well spent ?
  • A month after you donated £500,000 to the SNP, the SNP changed their policy and keep buses deregulated in Scotland. Are these connected ?

No, I like them too from a service perspective. Only issue I have with them is on some of their fares, but I go in to that with eyes wide open.

This sort of Emperor's New Clothes stunt is normal in the private sector. Company employees forced to participate in celebrating their employers 'success' even if they don't actually believe in it themselves. It's just a nonsense really.

Yes, because employees will be turning down a chance to play Wii and to get free food.... ;)

Free food!

Is it bad if I take the train down to Euston specifically to go to this event?

I have spare boxes and being a student have no money for food.

I think Virgin are pretty good too, whilst their walk-up fares are quite dear, I tend to book in advance if making long-distance trips so that doesn't really affect me :)

Good luck getting an honest answer. You'll need it.

Would it be ironic if I used LM to get there on a cheap super off peak from Brum?

Hmmm. Not really what makes a good TOC IMHO, that someone likes them because he only ever buys cheap advances.

This is the sort of publicity that Branson is very good at, but ulitimately I believe the public are growing slightly wary of it.

Whilst this forum perhaps isnt the best place to take a balanced view (being as how we are passionate about rail travel), I'm struck by the number of people that have become cynical of the bearded one. And regretably I probably count myself amongst them nowadays as publicity seeking just for the sake of it can really turn people off.

Virgin (ie Branson) is absolutely a force to be reckoned with but I find it is often a triumph of style over substance. His desire to run the National Lottery was another such example - on the face of it "not for profit" so surely it must be good, but his costs were several times higher than Camelot's. And the long list of companies/ventures abandoned over the years is quite telling.

I dont want to be a cynic, truly, but something about Branson always makes me suspicious. Will I be keeping my Northern Rock savings account currently paying 3.11%? Not if Virgin Money replicate their fantastic interest rate of 0.1% which I assume is part of their attempt to "revolutionise banking".

So guessing Platform 18 will be sealed off on Wednesday at Euston, no trains arriving and departing on that Platform

Hopefully it isn't and a few LM services come in and gatecrash the party.

Just been along to this. Was very interesting to hear Richard Branson and the subsequent questions and answers.
The FC teams were serving sandwiches, mince pies, Xmas pud, hot and cold drinks and champagne - very well received!
