No, that was an additional train today, 14 October.

3T71 1000 Wolverhampton to Shrewsbury
https://www.realtimetrains.co.uk/service/gb-nr:87273/2022-10-14/detailed

There isn't a 1000 from Shrewsbury.

The suggested diagram for the 196 has been posted earlier in this thread.

Thanks for the info.
i didn't think there was a 10.00 from SHR, I think i misread the previous post.

On the subject of the diagram, is that normal for a unit to come from Tyseley then just do 2 return trips to Brum then ECS back to Tyseley or is it just while they are introducing the 196's? It seems a bit of a waste of time and fuel.

Normal. It’s a peak diagram.

Here we are! My first impression is that these are an improvement on the trains they’ll replace!

Honestly, I can say, even though my bar has been the lowest it’s been when judging new stock, even I - vocally not the best fan of CAF products, was mildly surprised, if not satisfied.

Albeit, I only travelled between Telford Central and Sandwell & Dudley, the interiors were very bright and welcoming, the seats, whilst firm, were comfortable enough, like I find with the class 158s and 350s, it didn’t take me long to get settled into my seat. The seat backs weren't particularly to my liking, and the pull-out tray did have clear markings for coffee cups, it wasn’t the biggest size.

I found the build quality, ok? At no point did the train feel like it was going to fall to pieces, but I can see these getting filthy rather quickly and aren’t a patch on turbostars in this regard. Suspension was expectedly disappointing, though I must say, it was a little more refined at certain points than it’s northern sister

Overall, yes, an improvement over the class 170s, however, had the 170s been of ScotRail or Northern quality, I’m not sure the big step up in quality would be that much. In terms of acceleration and modern features, the 170s falls far short, compared to the 195/331, for me, at least, these paint CAF in a much brighter light

Those photos certainly look good, I haven't watched the video recently posted yet. I'm hoping to give these new trains a go very soon, as I have a week off in November. A judgement will be made on them then, but I remain optimistic :)

Shrewsbury will eventually be awash with CAF Civitys (196 and 197).
They'll be on all services except for TfW's Mk4s and whatever they put on the Central Wales line.
Plus the odd Avanti 805.

Will the 196s run on Saturdays over the next few weeks or only on that diagram Mon-Fri?
That diagram is just a starting point, no reason to believe they won't run any on Saturday's. Not sure what diagram it/they will run on though

Seats look far superior to Northerns
The 196 seats are meant to be the best seats of all the Civity DMUs (FISA Lean, as fitted to Stadler 755s/745s/231s/756s), with the Fainsa "ironing boards" (700-style, real name Comrail?) in the 195s supposedly being the worst, and the Fainsa Sophia (800-style) seats in the 197s supposedly being slightly better.

I plan to ride on all 3 classes for the first time in the next couple of months to see how their seats all compare.

I wonder why the orange light has remained on upon departure.
Only on the rearmost vehicle, and someone can be seen looking out of the window from there. Perhaps there's a sensor in that window which will also cause the BIL to illuminate if one of the cab windows isn't shut fully?

350s flash the light in the coach the guard's key is in - do these do the same?

How’s ride quality in comparison to e.g 195/331 and 397 reviews I have watched seem to be giving these units some given approvals from the get go in comparison to northerns units which were plagued from the beginning though a lot seems to have been ironed out. Opinions have caf and the dft learned their lessons of quality from the past 5 years?

Could the additional noise be a small Auxiliary engine? CAF have used those in the past on the NIR Units.

Also, I wonder why the orange light has remained on upon departure.
No - aux is a standard 24V supply off the main engines.

Still a few minor mods to be completed on the door controls, I suspect it might be related to that.

We need the 196's in service ASAP as when I was on a WMR 170 the other day the interior smelt rank(it is the old London midland one.) I am new to the railway forum so I don't know if I am posting this in the right place, if any of you guys do know, roughly when shall we be seeing the 196's enter service ?

I think West Midlands Railway have done a very good job with these trains. I look forward to seeing them myself and the 730s once ready and in service.

Will the four car sets see more use over the two car sets?

Hopefully in the ratio that they have been acquired. What would they do, park the two-car units in sidings some of the time?

My money is some of the spare units eventually being utilised on Snow Hills, although isn't some of the 196s rumoured to be leaving WMR "temporarily" when EWR opens from Oxford to Bedford?

Or has that been knocked on the head?
