I was tempted but its very disappointing there is seemingly no First Class available - which is presumably reserved for the big knobs invited by Cross Country and Modern Railways, while the Clampetts subsidise the trip in Standard - so I won’t bother.
Such cynicism ;)

Was similar on the LNER farewell tour bit us clampitts had fun in cattle class. Good crowd, not to spottery and some goid chat

EDIT - instant social media feedback - wrong day

Many of the industry managers are paying considerable amounts of money for an industry Lunch as part of a charity package including first class travel on the charter. All the the XC and Modern Railways teams are putting in many off the clock hours to help raise as much money for the Brain Tumour Trust. Standard Class are not subsidising industry guests.

I should hardly think CrossCountry drivers sign HST's to Swanage considering Bournemouth is all Voyagers
Birmingham CrossCountry drivers sign both HSTs and Bournemouth. They would just need a route conductor from Bournemouth to Swanage.

And freight drivers would sign HSTs? A conductor would be needed from the junction from the main line to Swanage but that could just as easily be a driver from the Swanage Railway.

You’d be surprised at how many do.

Indeed, Freightliner did all the Western diverts over the last few years both into Waterloo via Salisbury, Reading / Basingstoke and Marylebone. They've also done some of the more recent GW IET Diversions as well - Rhubarb Curve / Filton was a FL / GWR job.

The wonky lines return! Laira really seems to struggle with Raspberry Ripple, though it's not as bad as 185 was. Both cab roofs are oddly wrong as well, they've chosen to follow the curve of the gutter as opposed to following a straight line, which makes the Blue Grey one look odd, and the IC one look like it's sliding down the front.

But did they drive or just conduct the booked driver over the route?

Comments like this and others I've seen on Facebook really make me wonder why the people who actually get off their rears and make this stuff happen should bother.

It's a super effort by the individuals that have made it happen and this sort of pedentry really isn't in the spirit of what it's all about.

Why shouldn't some critique be allowed? Laira have had 2 attempts previously to get the Swallow livery right and they’ve managed to get it wrong on all 3 occasions. Neville Hill has had two attempts at it, painted their power cars than part vinyl / paint them, and both (102 then 049) look absolutely spot on. If Laira cant fix their issues with poor livery application, then that's down to them. Still, they'll get more use than the LNER farewell cars which should be awaiting their date with destiny soon.

At least they haven't used the full height vertical vinyl's which started to fray on 002 and trap dirt on 185.

Neville Hill don’t actually do the full re-livery in-house, it’s A1 Pro-Paint. They also did 43044 in IC Executive.

My comment is about common courtesy and manners regarding the special efforts of others.

And my comment is about the quality of the work. If they don’t want it to attract some criticism, then some learning from mistakes of the past needs to be taken into account. As I said, this is the 3rd attempt to get Swallow right from this depot, and the third time it’s come out with avoidable errors - even the bodyside red line isn’t straight. If you want constant praise for an incorrect job that’s your prerogative, but it would have been nice to see them finally get it right for the send off the fleet deserve. Instead we have avoidable errors. People would make the same comments if this was an item in the LSL fleet, so I don’t see why Laira should get away escaping comment other than for your own connection.

Cheers - I had a small feeling it was but couldn’t remember the name. A company, looking at their website, who would be more than happy to travel…

Presumably XC are paying GWR to have this work done, too?

What a terribly arrogant attitude you have. Appalling.

No, it's been done by an external contactor. GWR have given resources and time to help make it happen though.

Quite possibly. I’ve just seen a nose on photo, and I’m sorry but it certainly shows all the hallmarks of a rush job. The red line curves along the bodyside, the livery slopes down at the nose, the cab roof slopes down too as they’ve followed the shape of the gutted. I would almost say 185 was better despite its mismatched red band, though looking at both the red band has been applied too high and both have been made to awkwardly fit around the nose. Hopefully the Blue Grey one will be better.

So is it too soon to know which Power Cars, and hence liveries, are at the head and tail of the train down to Swanage please?

And am I right in thinking that the coaches are all in CrossCountry livery as they are the operator?
