They should have converted the other 49 instead. If I remember correctly 58050 could haul the same loads as a Class 60.
No money!
The Government wouldnt sanction the expenditure, sound familiar?

In the long run leading into EWS (and then DBS), would it have saved them anyway?
It's easy to say that now, as we all know rail freight has not took off since privatisation like passenger traffic did.
But what if rail freight had been a success? The FOC's would be trying to get their hands on all the locomotives they could get to cope with the increasing traffic. The 58's would have been especially useful with SEPEX fitted.
A sad set of pic's of the stored 58's in France or Spain, Bring them back home:

It looks like a class 58 at Knottingley? http://goo.gl/maps/wuWUb
I think the class 60's are newer.I just wonder if the NRM want a class 58 in their collection? Does joe public care 58050 was the last loco built in the UK?
Definitely looks like a 58 to me - silencer, two round grills, full-width cab at both ends. Old pic, maybe. There are no 58s at Knottingley. Looks like on On Track Machine?

If you look close then it says (C)Google2009 which means it could of been taken in 2009?

Drove all 50 of them when I was on freight trains
There is no way that was taken in 2009, more like 1995.
The 58s were not allocated to Knottingley for long, a couple of years at most.
Just because it says the imagery is 2009 does not mean you can take this as gospel. My house shows a greenhouse I dismantled about 5 years ago whilst stating 2012 imagery.
