Got an email last night saying mine was under consideration and being screened. I don't expect any further comms for a while now.

Can I ask those who haven't been knocked back - did you use the full 1000 words on the employment section(s)?

That's the only area I didn't use every available character to me and I suspect it's what may have caused me to be sifted out.

Like I said earlier in the thread I felt my competency examples were strong as similar past examples have got me through the paper sift with several other TOC's......

Personally, I have never used the full 1000 characters. Maybe around 700, but i'm sure it is all about quality not quantity.

In reply to my application, I so far only receive a confirmation that the application is received, nothing else yet. Here’s hoping.

I threw my hat in the ring for Newcastle. I live - according to Google Maps 23 to 35 minutes away depending on time of day, from Newcastle Central

I didn’t use the full 1000 characters for the application, maybe 750.

I haven’t heard anything apart from the initial application acknowledgement.

For anyone familiar with the northern recruitment process, are we saying here that those with the “you’re being screened” email are further ahead in the process than those with just the “application received” email? I’d have expected everyone to get the 2nd email together but this hasn’t occurred?

The only e-mail I’ve had is as below:-

Thank you for taking the time to apply to us here at Northern. We are pleased to receive your application and to learn more about you.

We recommend that you periodically check your email and login to our recruitment portal to look for updates and messages from us regarding the status of your application.

We will be back in touch with you to update you on your application. Please bear with us as some roles do attract high levels of interest, but rest assured that we will come back to you. The two emails i've received have been identical, I had a look at the recruitment portal and can say that although they are identical they have been sent by two different people of the recruitment team.

I will add also that I have passed my psychometrics. Not sure if this affects the application process.

Not everyone has had one of these. Some have just had the application received message that’s automatically sent immediately after applying

@CreamNCookies how did you get on with TPE earler on in the year I think we was on the same stage 1 psychometric tests I ultimately failed the interview, I have since applied at northern but for Leeds so fingers doubly crossed haha

Good luck to everyone. A friend applied for a post in leeds/hull and is still waiting to hear back regarding application.
I sat the psychometric in august and it was to an enhanced standard.

i passed everything to an enhanced standard with tpe earlier on in the year mine for northern at the leeds depot just says application under consideration. that was on the 18th

I passed the psychometrics, still waiting on the ol DMI. Managed to get a different role with TPE pending a medical (still no date). But I really want to get in to the train drivers world.

I suppose the DMI was put back due to Covid19 I had my DMI back in February

I think thats it. I'll be surprised if I get a DMI, but until I get told otherwise i'm hopeful. However this role with Northern is just as attractive.

At least you can use your interviewyou had for practice if you make it past this stage. Hopefully having passed your tests already makes you slightly more attractive. Good luck bud!

I applied for the York Driver role and I got a rejection email and no 'screening' - guessing it's because I live 51 minutes from the York depot.

This time (using the same answers) I got the second email saying I was being screened.

Yes it is these days, its a way they receive funding from government as it helps their apprenticeship stats.

I recieved the standard response to indicate that I have passed and now find myself on hold. Unfortunately, (I can only assume that it is down to covid?) I applied in Feb for driver at Blackburn finally finished my assessments and mmi in Jul. Last email I got was the next stage is a medical got a another update this month, can't offer start date yet and they have 9 months to offer or application expires. Looks like if may or may not happen

Northern abandoned many of the recruitment drives they had ongoing and simply withdrew the roles. I had applied for a couple of driving roles and both were pulled.

Is it possible the role was withdrawn and they just haven't told you? I would ring them if I were you, if you have a contact number.

I got the same one for York probably for the same reason

I'm starting at Picc in November (hopefully, all being well, of course...) I applied at the start of the year and sat psychometrics in the summer so it seems recruitment is still moving through covid but it's dependant on spaces at depots. Hope you guys get sorted soon.

A different role i applied for at Newcastle just got put on hold, but I am yet to receive any correspondence in regards to the driving role. I suspect with COVID things tightening in the North East a lot of things may be put on the back burner until next year.
